REY MYSTERIO WINS WWE UNITED STATES CHAMPIONSHIP

On last night’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown, Rey Mysterio won the WWE United States Championship for the third time. Mysterio was not supposed to battle Austin Theory last night; Santos Escobar was the original challenger but could not compete due to two attacks before the match. Escobar had earned the title challenge after winning a mini-tournament. But, it was Theory who took him out during a backstage interview segment and again when Escobar was on his way to the ring.

Adam Pearce then ruled that Theory would still have to defend his title, and the challenger would be Escobar’s LWO stablemate, Rey Mysterio. Theory lost to Mysterio after being hit by Mysterio’s finisher, the 619. Austin Theory’s reign as the US Champion lasted 258 days.
