Charlotte Flair & Asuka Win Tag Team Titles at TLC

Asuka and Charlotte Flair - the new WWE Women's Tag Team Champions

At WWE‘s final pay-per-view event of the year, Charlotte Flair returned from the injured list to partner with Asuka. Together, they captured the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship titles by defeating Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

This is the first title reign for Asuka and Charlotte Flair together. Jax and Baszler won the titles back at WWE Payback on August 30, by defeating Bayley and current SmackDown Women’s Champion, Sasha Banks.

Tonight’s win for Charlotte Flair is historic. She is now a Grand Slam Champion and the first Superstar to hold all the women’s titles in WWE. Charlotte Flair has held the WWE Women’s Title, the RAW Women’s Title, the SmackDown Women’s Title, and now the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. Charlotte also held the WWE Divas Title before it was retired in 2016 while she was champion.

Asuka’s title win is also historic. She is the first female WWE Superstar to hold tag team gold with two different partners in WWE since Velvet McIntyre did it in 1984.

A tag team name for Charlotte Flair and Asuka is currently being considered. Charlotte said they may use something along the lines of “Empress Queen” or “The Royal Team.”
