WarGames 2020 Matches
The battle lines were drawn at NXT TakeOver’s WarGames 2020. The pay-per-view event aired on the WWE Network on Sunday, December 6th, 2020.
The Undisputed ERA (Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly, Roderick Strong, and Bobby Fish) vs. Pat McAfee, Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch (WarGames Match)
OUR PREDICTION: THE UNDISPUTED ERA
WINNER: THE UNDISPUTED ERA
RATING: 9/10
RECAP: This was the match of the night! It was just two actual teams just beating each other up for exactly 45 minutes and it was perfect and exactly what should be expected of a WarGames match. Pat MacAfee looked great in that ring for his lack of knowledge as he is a football star. But his moves looked really good and wrestling might be a good business for him in the future.
Pete Dunne, Oney Lorcan, and Danny Burch also all looked amazing as well as the rest of the Undisputed Era. The big spot of the match was when Pat MacAfee jumped off the cage on top of everyone else. The match ended with Kyle O’Reilly winning for his team.
Team Shotzi vs. Team Candice (WarGames Match)
OUR PREDICTION: TEAM CANDICE
WINNER: TEAM CANDICE
RATING: 8/10
RECAP: This match kicked off the show and was a really good way to kick it off. Every wrestler gave it their all and put on a match that was even better than the WarGames match last year. Everyone had a good showing and the match had a huge spot with Io Shirai jumping off the WarGames structure with a trash can over her head. In the end of the match Raquel González pinned Io Shirai to win the match. Overall this was a huge win for Team Candice and Raquel González.
NXT North American Champion Leon Ruff vs. Damian Priest vs. Johnny Gargano (Triple Threat Match)
OUR PREDICTION: JOHNNY GARGANO
WINNER: JOHNNY GARGANO
RATING: 5/10
RECAP: This match was another really solid match and everyone looked good. Leon Ruff even got some offense in. Damian Priest took it easy on Ruff though which was kind of a disappointment in the end. This match was ruined by a garbage finish though with a bunch of people in ghost masks taking out Damian Priest. Then in the ring Johnny Gargano hit Leon Ruff with a DDT and won the match. This was a great match until the ending but congrats to Johnny Gargano on becoming the first ever three-time NXT North American Champion.
Dexter Lumis vs. Cameron Grimes (Strap Match)
OUR PREDICTION: DEXTER LUMIS
WINNER: DEXTER LUMIS
RATING: 5/10
RECAP: Usually strap matches are not that good but this one was shockingly good. This is the one match I wasn’t really looking forward to this match but it ended up being really good. This feud is by far the worst on NXT but at the end of the match Dexter Lumis did a face plant to Cameron Grimes and a chair and choked him out winning by submission. Overall, the weakest match of the night but still enjoyable.
Tommaso Ciampa vs. Timothy Thatcher
OUR PREDICTION: TOMMASO CIAMPA
WINNER: TOMMASO CIAMPA
RATING: 7/10
RECAP: A really good, solid wrestling match from start to finish. Both men had an amazing showing and it was a hard hitting match, much like many of Kyle O’Reilly’s matches in the past. Timothy Thatcher looked really good after this and it might be time for Tommaso Ciampa to be brought up to Raw or SmackDown. Overall a good match with Ciampa needing change.
