WWE SUMMERSLAM 2024 RECAP & REVIEW
WWE SUMMERSLAM 2024 MATCH CARD
Liv Morgan (c) defeated Rhea Ripley (with “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio). Singles match for the Women’s World Championship
WINNER: LIV MORGAN
OUR PREDICTION: LIV MORGAN
RATING: 8/10
This was a great opener to the show. The drama of who Dominik Mysterio is actually aligned with made this really interesting. Liv Morgan also looked like a star in this match. The biggest concern with Liv Morgan was if she could really hang with the main eventers of the division and she more than held her own with Rhea Ripley. The only part of the match that wasn’t the greatest was when Liv Morgan was just running away from Rhea Ripley for the first three minutes of the match. At the end of the match we had a callback to the ending of Liv Morgan vs Becky Lynch where Dominik slid a chair into the ring “for Rhea” and then Liv Morgan planted Ripley on top of the chair, and Dominik put Liv’s foot on the rope. Liv retains and the two kissed after the match. Awesome opener to the show, and we’re all super excited for Rhea to kick Dom’s teeth in. Liv Morgan winning here was the correct choice, this storyline needs to end at Bad Blood in a Hell in a Cell match.
Bron Breakker defeated Sami Zayn (c). Singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
WINNER: BRON BREAKKER
OUR PREDICTION: BRON BREAKKER
RATING: 6/10
This was everything it needed to be. The match was under six minutes and Bron Breakker destroyed Sami Zayn. We all expect this guy to go on a dominant title run now, and Sami Zayn can finally move into all The Bloodline stuff. Not much to talk about, Bron Breakker won after a nasty Spear. Can’t give this the highest rating due to the length however, since not much happened. Great moment though.
LA Knight defeated Logan Paul (c) (with mgk). Singles match for the WWE United States Championship
WINNER: LA KNIGHT
OUR PREDICTION: LA KNIGHT
RATING: 8/10
This was awesome. The two started brawling before the match and it seemed like Logan’s hometown was enjoying LA Knight even more than the hometown hero. This was possibly LA Knights most athletic match in the WWE, it seems he just gets better with age. MGK went to give Logan Paul brass knuckles at the end of the match, but LA Knight caught him and used them himself for the win. This was LA Knight’s first singles title victory in WWE. It was well deserved and long overdue. Despite Paul’s actions outside of WWE, you can’t deny he is a great performer in that ring and both guys delivered tonight.
Nia Jax defeated Bayley (c). Singles match for the WWE Women’s Championship
WINNER: NIA JAX
OUR PREDICTION: NIA JAX
RATING: 7/10
Honestly a way better match than everyone anticipated. Bayley possibly got Nia Jax’s best singles match out of her, and all the shenanigans with Tiffany Stratton were great as well. Tiffany teased a cash in, but obviously didn’t and in the end, she ended up helping Nia Jax win. Nia Jax won after hitting three Annihilators. Great match, and Nia Jax deserved this win for her improvement since her return last year.
Drew McIntyre defeated CM Punk. Singles match
WINNER: DREW MCINTYRE
OUR PREDICTION: DREW MCINTYRE
RATING: 10/10
This was perfect. CM Punk finally showed that he can still put on a great match at his age, while avoiding injury at the same time. Drew McIntyre continues to be the best heel in wrestling currently, and Seth Rollins added so much drama to this match that just glued you to your seat. CM Punk stole his bracelet back from Drew McIntyre halfway through the match and it landed on the floor, and Seth Rollins grabbed it with no intentions, he just wasn’t it off the mat, but Punk got mad at this and attacked Rollins, but after Rollins got back up, McIntyre pinned Punk. Awesome storytelling and this storyline is far from over. McIntyre needed the win here and hopefully this leads to Hell in a Cell.
Gunther defeated Damian Priest (c). Singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship
WINNER: GUNTHER
OUR PREDICTION: GUNTHER
RATING: 9/10
From an in ring perspective this was the match of the night. Two beasts going head to head for the World Heavyweight Championship. Both men looked dominant throughout, but the match all changed when Finn Balor came out. He tried to help Priest at first, but then when Priest hit Gunther with his finisher, Finn Balor put Gunther’s foot on the rope, and when Damian Priest saw the replay, he was furious. However, Finn Balor distracted Priest allowing Gunther to lock a sleeper hold on him, and all Priest could see when he was passing out was his best friend Finn Balor staring at him full of hate. Gunther won his first world title in the WWE and this was an amazing moment. The Original Judgement Day is dead.
Cody Rhodes (c) defeated Solo Sikoa. Bloodline Rules match for the Undisputed WWE Championship
WINNER: CODY RHODES
OUR PREDICTION: CODY RHODES
RATING: 8/10
This match was awesome. Solo Sikoa really took all those hate comments online and turned them into fuel because he was on fire in this match. Cody Rhodes was great as he always is nowadays, we’re living in the Cody Rhodes prime currently. Randy Orton and Kevin Owens came back to help out Cody as expected, and they took out the new Bloodline. Tonga Loa botched his spot again, and the Earth is still spinning what else is new? But then at the end of the match The Bloodline was standing over Cody and then we heard Roman Reigns’ theme hit and the crowd went nuts. He immediately speared Solo, while having a stare down with Cody, this was awesome. Cody Rhodes retained thanks to Roman Reigns, what a main event to a perfect SummerSlam.
