WWE BACKLASH 2024 PAY-PER-VIEW RECAP & REVIEW
WWE BACKLASH 2024 MATCH CARD
The Bloodline (Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga) (with Paul Heyman) defeated Kevin Owens and Randy Orton. Tag team Street Fight
WINNER: THE BLOODLINE
OUR PREDICTION: THE BLOODLINE
RATING: 8/10
This was a great opener. First of all, this might have been the greatest professional wrestling crowd of all time. So when Nick Aldis ran out to tell the audience that the match would be turned into a Street Fight they went wild. Most of the match was Randy Orton and Kevin Owens getting offense over The Bloodline, and if WWE intended to make Solo Sikoa look strong it didn’t work. However, this match makes up for that with how awesome the action was. Tama Tonga was welcomed to WWE by Kevin Owens after Owens hit him with a brain buster onto steel chairs in the most brutal spot in WWE of the year. In the end, Tanga Loa (FKA Camacho in 2009-2014 WWE) came out to save The Bloodline and help them win which they definitely needed. Great match with awesome spots, just wish The Bloodline felt more dominant.
Bayley (c) defeated Naomi and Tiffany Stratton. Triple threat match for the WWE Women’s Championship
WINNER: BAYLEY
OUR PREDICTION: BAYLEY
RATING: 8/10
This was an awesome Triple Threat match. The only odd thing was that Tiffany Stratton, the heel got the most spotlight and most good spots with her doing crazy flips and executing cool sequences throughout. Every woman got their time to shine and no woman looked weak in defeat. Tiffany Stratton was too dominant so Bayley and Naomi hit Tiffany with The Usos finisher to knock her out of the match. Then Bayley proceeds to roll up Naomi right away in a sort of rushed ending. It was a little too quick of an ending, however Naomi didn’t look weak in defeat due to just being rolled up. People online are saying Tiffany Stratton should have won, but they don’t realize that she just came to the main roster. She’s an amazing talent and her time will come, most likely at Money in the Bank or Queen of the Ring but Bayley just won her title and deserves to hold onto it for a few months.
Damian Priest (c) defeated Jey Uso. Singles match for the World Heavyweight Championship
WINNER: DAMIAN PRIEST
OUR PREDICTION: DAMIAN PRIEST
RATING: 7/10
If any match was elevated by the crowd, it was this one. The match was still good, but definitely a step below the previous two. The Judgment Day interference was cool and it progressed the story of Damian Priest claiming he doesn’t need help. Jey Uso looked like a mega star and that was awesome, but there was never a doubt that Damian Priest was going to win once Judgment Day interfered. This match struggled the most in the sense that this title doesn’t feel prestigious. It feels less prestigious than the Intercontinental Championship and the WWE Championship which is a problem that could be fixed when someone like Punk or McIntyre wins the title. Still a fun match and it’s not Damian Priest’s fault the title doesn’t feel prestigious or Jey Usos’ fault that he doesn’t feel like a main eventer yet, it’s just the lack of credible contenders on Raw right now.
Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill defeated The Kabuki Warriors (Asuka and Kairi Sane). Tag team match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship
WINNER: BIANCA BELAIR & JADE CARGILL
OUR PREDICTION: BIANCA BELAIR & JADE CARGILL
RATING: 8/10
This match exceeded all expectations, and The Kabuki Warriors didn’t get squashed, in fact, they almost got 20 minutes to work with. A majority of the match was Bianca Belair facing off with The Kabuki Warriors and it was super cool. The Kabuki Warriors looked really strong against Belair and when Belair made the hot tag to Cargill, The Kabuki Warriors overtook her as well and we had a whole other segment of the match. Eventually as expected Cargill and Belair got their momentum back and there was a crazy finish where Cargill threw Kairi Sane around like she was nothing. The pop for Cargill and Belair winning was insane. Only bad spot of the match was when Kairi Sane and the referee had a miscommunication where Kairi wasn’t the legal partner in the match and the ref was telling her that but Kairi didn’t understand and thought she was. Still awesome stuff despite the slight botches in the middle.
Cody Rhodes (c) defeated AJ Styles. Singles match for the Undisputed WWE Championship
WINNER: CODY RHODES
OUR PREDICTION: CODY RHODES
RATING: 9/10
AJ Styles was the perfect first contender for Cody Rhodes. Obviously we knew that AJ Styles wasn’t going to win, but he’s one of the best in ring workers ever, and in the conversation for the greatest wrestler on the planet past 2005. People forget that AJ Styles is one of the longest-reigning WWE Champions in history. The match was great with AJ Styles working a more brutal heel style than he typically would. Cody Rhodes looked awesome in this match as well showing that he can hang with the best workers WWE has to offer. In the end Cody Rhodes won in a match that probably ended off the feud between these two. This was an amazing main event and the crowd made it even better.
