WWE SURVIVOR SERIES WARGAMES 2023 RECAP & REVIEW
SURVIVOR SERIES WARGAMES 2023 MATCH CARD
Bianca Belair, Charlotte Flair, Shotzi, and Becky Lynch defeated Damage CTRL (Bayley, Asuka, Iyo Sky, and Kairi Sane) (with Dakota Kai). Women’s WarGames match
WINNER: BIANCA BELAIR, CHARLOTTE FLAIR, SHOTZI & BECKY LYNCH
OUR PREDICTION: DAMAGE CTRL
RATING: 9/10
The Women’s WarGames match kicked off the show, and what a way to get the crowd invested. Everyone looked great, and the match would have been perfect if the right team won. Team Belair could have had Shotzi take the pinfall and everything would be fine. The way the match ended wasn’t bad however, it had Bayley sacrifice herself for her teammates and take everyone’s finishing move to lose the match. Bayley will most likely get turned on by the rest of the group soon. Iyo Sky had the spot of the match jumping off the top of the WarGames structure with a trash can on her head. The match was a great opener to a great show.
Gunther (c) defeated The Miz. Singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
WINNER: GUNTHER
OUR PREDICTION: GUNTHER
RATING: 7/10
This match was everything it needed to be. It felt intense, even though it was objectively the worst match of the night. Although it seemed that The Miz had a chance of winning, we all knew deep down that Gunther was about to retain the title. Gunther won the match after making The Miz tap out. The match was structured well with The Miz targeting the legs of Gunther the whole match, and even if he came up short, The Miz also looks better in his losing effort. Great stuff.
Santos Escobar defeated Dragon Lee. Singles match
WINNER: SANTOS ESCOBAR
OUR PREDICTION: SANTOS ESCOBAR
RATING: 7/10
This was a really fun match, but the only problem was the length. The match was way too short. Obviously Santos Escobar has to look strong to make a statement, but Dragon Lee was undefeated on SmackDown up to this point. The ending to the match was clean when he hit Dragon Lee with a Phantom Driver which was unexpected but it was a nice change. Santos Escobar has all the tools to be a main player on SmackDown.
Rhea Ripley (c) defeated Zoey Stark. Singles match for the Women’s World Championship
WINNER: RHEA RIPLEY
OUR PREDICTION: RHEA RIPLEY
RATING: 7/10
In another really good match, Rhea RIpley retained her title against Zoey Stark. It’s really good how quickly Zoey Stark has been elevated into this position but we all knew the chances of her winning the title were slim. The Z360 is cut off at the end of the match and it’s a headbutt into Riptide for Rhea to retain. The match itself was good and hard hitting, only problem now is that there’s no one left for Rhea Ripley to face.
Cody Rhodes, Seth “Freakin” Rollins, Jey Uso, Sami Zayn, and Randy Orton defeated The Judgment Day (Damian Priest, Finn Bálor, “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio, and JD McDonagh) and Drew McIntyre. Men’s WarGames match
WINNER: CODY RHODES, SETH ROLLINS, JEY USO, SAMI ZAYN & RANDY ORTON
OUR PREDICTION: CODY RHODES, SETH ROLLINS, JEY USO, SAMI ZAYN & RANDY ORTON
RATING: 10/10
Finn Balor and Seth Rollins started off the match for their respective teams. Randy Orton isn’t there at the beginning of the match to add drama as well. After everyone comes out, Randy still hasn’t yet and instead Rhea Ripley went to cash in on behalf of Damian Priest before Randy Orton stopped her. Randy ran into the ring and looked amazing. He hit two crazy RKO’s including one to JD McDonaugh from the top of the structure. This was a better match than the first, if nothing else due to the match not feeling like it was trying to stretch out time. Team Orton won the match after Cody pinned Priest.
