WWE HALL OF FAMER THE IRON SHEIK DIES AT AGE 81

The Iron Sheik, real name Hossein Khosrow Ali Vaziri, passed away on June 7, 2023 at the age of 81 in Fayetteville, Georgia. He was an Iranian-American professional wrestler, amateur wrestler, and actor. Vaziri was the only Iranian champion in WWE history as he won the WWF World Heavyweight Championship in 1983. The Iron Sheik’s rivalry with Hulk Hogan was epic and catapulted Hogan into one of the greatest television heroes of that decade. He later formed a tag team with Nikolai Volkoff, and together they won the WWF Tag Team Championship at the inaugural WrestleMania event. In 2005, he was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Vaziri leaves behind his wife Caryl of 47 years, his children Tanya, Nikki, and son-in-law Eddie, as well as five grandchildren and two nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Marissa.
