WWE’S WRESTLEMANIA 39 NIGHT 1 RECAP & REVIEW
WrestleMania 39 Night 1 Match Card
Austin Theory (c) defeated John Cena. Singles match for the WWE United States Championship
WINNER: AUSTIN THEORY
OUR PREDICTION: JOHN CENA
RATING: 3/10
Sadly, this match was the lowest point of the show. John Cena had a really nice entrance with the Make-a-Wish kids. But other than that, there was nothing to say. The match was limited when it came to the action. This was most likely due to Cena’s movie schedule. It was boring, and underwhelming. The referee was knocked over by accident, and while he was still knocked out Austin Theory tapped out but it didn’t count. Theory then performed a low blow and then performed the A-Town Down on Cena and pinned him to retain his championship. A boring match to kick off the show, but at least it had the right winner.
The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford) defeated Braun Strowman and Ricochet, Alpha Academy (Chad Gable and Otis), and The Viking Raiders (Erik and Ivar) (with Valhalla). Men’s WrestleMania Showcase fatal four-way tag team match
WINNER: THE STREET PROFITS
OUR PREDICTION: THE STREET PROFITS
RATING: 7/10
This match was way better than it had any right to be. It had no stakes whatsoever, but it just had eight guys going out there and being told to have fun. The highlight of the match was a huge Tower of Doom spot with Ricochet landing on his feet still. Ricochet was looking to win the match before he was hit by a frog splash from Montez Ford. Angelo Dawkins then pinned Ricochet for the win. A fun time that didn’t last too long, but got the fans excited for the rest of the night.
Trish Stratus, Lita, and Becky Lynch defeated Damage CTRL (Bayley, Dakota Kai, and Iyo Sky). Six-woman tag team match
WINNER: TRISH STRATUS, LITA & BECKY LYNCH
OUR PREDICTION: DAMAGE CTRL
RATING: 6/10
This match was a little underwhelming, but it was still a fun time. Becky, Trish, and Lita got a really fun entrance that was comic book inspired. Lita needs to retire. She couldn’t keep up with everyone else in the ring and it’s unfortunate, but it’s just the truth. The match was a straight-up big brawl that could have been better if there was some form of structure. Becky Lynch won the match after hitting Bayley with a Manhandle Slam. Good match but it should have been way better.
Rey Mysterio defeated Dominik Mysterio. Singles match
WINNER: REY MYSTERIO
OUR PREDICTION: REY MYSTERIO
RATING: 8/10
This was such a fun time. The entrances were amazing, and this match felt special. There was a really stupid Cinnamon Toast Crunch banner around the ring, but other then that this match was great. Finn Balor and Damian Priest came out to help Rey Mysterio win, but Legado Del Fantasma helped fight them off. After Dominik Mysterio threw a drink in his sisters face, Rey Mysterio went off on Dominik Mysterio, including hitting him with a belt. Dominik Mysterio was about to hit Rey with a metal chain, but then Bad Bunny stopped him before Rey hit Dominik with the 619 for the win. Great match, and hopefully there is another one.
Rhea Ripley defeated Charlotte Flair. Singles match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship
WINNER: RHEA RIPLEY
OUR PREDICTION: RHEA RIPLEY
RATING: 10/10
This was the greatest women’s match in WrestleMania history. The match started out slow, but when it picked up, it really picked up. There was one spot in the match where Charlotte Flair was dropped right onto her face and it was horrifying. After an insane moonsault from the top rope to the floor from Charlotte, Rhea Ripley finally caught Charlotte with a Riptide. After this, she hit Charlotte with another one off of the top rope. This was a great hard-hitting match, that just flew by despite its length. Rhea Ripley winning was the right choice, and it’s so good that we have a new face in the women’s division.
Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn defeated The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso). Tag team match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship
WINNER: KEVIN OWENS & SAMI ZAYN
OUR PREDICTION: KEVIN OWENS & SAMI ZAYN
RATING: 10/10
The best match of the night was also the last one as Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn finished the story. The Usos separated Kevin Owens from Sami Zayn throughout most of the match making it essentially a handicap match. After The Usos were in control throughout most of it, Kevin Owens attacks Jimmy Uso leaving it to be Jey and Sami as the only ones in the ring. Sami Zayn then proceeded to hit Jey Uso with a Helluva Kick three times to win the match. Genuinely one of the best main events in WrestleMania history. The storytelling, the in-ring quality, and the moment of Sami and Kevin holding their titles on the grandest stage of them all. Beautiful stuff.
