WrestleMania 38: Night One - Steve Austin vs Kevin Owens

WRESTLEMANIA 38: NIGHT ONE RECAP & REVIEW

The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso) (c) defeated Shinsuke Nakamura and Rick Boogs. Tag team match for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship

OUR PREDICTION: THE USOS
WINNER: THE USOS
RATING: 4/10

This match was probably the worst match of the night but it wasn’t anyone’s fault. Rick Boogs got injured midway through the match so it basically became a 2-1 handicap match. The match ended fairly quickly because The Usos and Shinsuke Nakamura didn’t know what to do, so the match ended soon after the injury. It was still a decently paced match until the injury and wasn’t horrible so the rating won’t be too bad. The Usos were also a good choice of winner.

Drew McIntyre defeated Happy Corbin (with Madcap Moss). Singles match

OUR PREDICTION: DREW MCINTYRE
WINNER: DREW MCINTYRE
RATING: 5/10

This match was actually better than most expected it to be. It wasn’t amazing or anything but it did deliver on everything it had to. Now that this rivalry is hopefully over, it served as a good enough conclusion. It was still your typical Baron Corbin match with it being really slow and boring at points but picking up at the end. The highlight of the match was Drew McIntyre being the first person to kick out of the End of Days. This match was alright but was better than expected.

The Miz and Logan Paul defeated Rey Mysterio and Dominik Mysterio. Tag team match

OUR PREDICTION: THE MYSTERIOS
WINNER: THE MIZ & LOGAN PAUL
RATING: 6/10

Logan Paul was way better than anyone expected him to be. He used a bunch of Eddie Guerrero’s moves to make Rey Mysterio upset and it worked. The match was actually really good and all the men involved delivered. The only problem was the winner. Logan Paul and The Miz shouldn’t have won this match but what happened after the match was still interesting. The Miz turned on Logan Paul and walked out of the arena. Hopefully Logan Paul doesn’t stick around.

Bianca Belair defeated Becky Lynch (c). Singles match for the WWE Raw Women’s Championship

OUR PREDICTION: BIANCA BELAIR
WINNER: BIANCA BELAIR
RATING: 9/10

This match was actually really good. It wasn’t as good as Bianca’s match last year but it still delivered. The highlight of this match was Bianca Belair just dodging the count out loss and getting slammed onto the steel steps. Bianca Belair got her eye injured by Becky Lynch during the match but it was nothing too serious. The best aspect of this match was the story telling. As soon as the match started, Becky Lynch went for the same move she did at SummerSlam last year and the whole match was built around Becky Lynch just being a bully. The match ended after a KOD and the story from SummerSlam last year came full circle. Amazing match.

Charlotte Flair defeated Ronda Rousey. Singles match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

OUR PREDICTION: RONDA ROUSEY
WINNER: CHARLOTTE FLAIR
RATING: 2/10

This match sucked. It was definitely the worst match of the weekend. These two had an amazing match back in 2018 but it just seemed like they didn’t know what they wanted this match to be. Who was the crowd supposed to cheer for here? Both women were made really unlikeable in the storyline and it just seemed like both women didn’t enjoy working together. The match ended in a really weird way too. Ronda bumped into the ref and when she went to pick him back up Charlotte kicked her and that was enough to put Ronda away apparently. The match was slow, boring and the wrong person won.

Cody Rhodes defeated Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Singles match

OUR PREDICTION: CODY RHODES
WINNER: CODY RHODES
RATING: 9/10

This match was amazing. The build up was perfect and hearing Cody Rhodes come out will always be a WrestleMania moment. We expected a short match with Cody destroying Rollins but instead they had the longest match on the card. Cody Rhodes didn’t change anything about his move set from AEW and the match was amazing. Fast paced and never a dull moment. Cody Rhodes won the match after a Cross Rhodes for the win.

“Stone Cold” Steve Austin defeated Kevin Owens. No Holds Barred match

WINNER: STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN
RATING: 10/10

This match was perfect. It was all it needed to be. It was entertaining and it wasn’t a squash match. Steve Austin even took a bump on the concrete which was insane. The best part of the match was when Steve Austin drove the ATV during the match. The match of course ended with a stunner to Kevin Owens. Steve Austin did way more than he had to and it made the most entertaining match and the best match of the night.
