Carmelo Hayes Wins NXT North American Championship

On last night’s episode of NXT 2.0 Carmelo Hayes became the new NXT North American Champion. Former NXT North American Champion Isaiah “Swerve” Scott of Hit defended his title successfully against Santos Escobar but was then attacked by Carmelo Hayes who executed his right for a sudden title match.

Fans will recall that Carmelo Hayes had signed the contract he was awarded when he won the 2021 NXT Breakout Tournament. Hayes won the match with a Diving Axe Kick from the top rope to become the new NXT North American Champion. There’s no word on who Hayes’ first challenger will be or if he will defend at the NXT Halloween Havoc special on October 26.

Carmelo Hayes, whose real name is Christian Brigham, signed a contract with WWE on February 21, 2021, and was assigned to the WWE Performance Center. He made his in-ring debut on the June 1st episode of NXT under the ring name Carmelo Hayes. At his debut, Hayes accepted Kushida’s open challenge for the NXT Cruiserweight Championship but was defeated. On the June 22nd episode of NXT, Hayes had his second match on NXT where he confronted and then fought Adam Cole, in a losing effort.
