WWE Backlash 2021 Matches Confirmed

WrestleMania Backlash

WWE’s 2021 Backlash is less than a month away and so far, only two matches have been booked for the pay-per-view event. Backlash 2021 will take place on Sunday, May 16, 2021, and will stream live on Peacock in the United States and on the WWE Network internationally.

The first match confirmed is for the WWE Championship. Reigning WWE Champion Bobby Lashley will face not only Drew McIntyre, but as well, Braun Strowman. At WrestleMania 37, Lashley successfully defended his title against Drew McIntyre in the opening match. On the Monday Night RAW following WrestleMania 37, the chase for the title grew even more intense with McIntyre issuing a new challenge to Lashley and both Strowman and Randy Orton also became focused on the WWE Championship.

WWE Official Adam Pearce issued a matchup in a triple threat match where McIntyre defeated Randy Orton and Braun Strowman to earn a title rematch. Two weeks later, Strowman continued his pursuit of a title opportunity and won his clash with McIntyre creating a new dimension to the WWE Backlash match.

WWE Backlash’s second match that has been confirmed is for the WWE Women’s SmackDown Championship. Reigning champion Bianca Belair will defend her title against Bayley, the longest reigning women’s SmackDown champion. Belair captured the title at WrestleMania 37 in a historical match against Sasha Banks.
