SANTOS ESCOBAR

Jorge Luis Alcantar Bolly is a 39-year-old wrestler from Mexico City. He is currently signed with the WWE and performs on SmackDown under the ring name, Santos Escobar.

Alcantar’s Early Wrestling Career

Alcantar made his wrestling debut in 2000 under the name “Top Secret” and he used this ring name until 2003 when he was given the name “El Hijo del Fantasma.” He wrestled for the promotion Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre until 2013 and then went on to work for other promotions. These promotions included Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, Lucha Underground and Impact Wrestling. He won many championships in his years on the independent scene.

Alcantar Signs with WWE

In August of 2019, Alcantar signed with the WWE. He then began competing again under the ring name “El Hijo del Fantasma.” In April of 2020, Fantasma was announced as one of the participants in the WWE’s interim Cruiserweight Title tournament. He was place in Group B alongside Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Jack Gallagher and Akira Tozawa. He lost to Scott but defeated Gallagher and Tozawa to move on to the finals.

In the finals, Fantasma faced Drake Maverick and won the match and the NXT Cruiserweight Championship. The next week on NXT, Fantasma turned heel and joined forces with Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde to form the group known as Legado Del Fantasma. Alcantar unmasked himself and took on the ring name, Santos Escobar.

Legado De Fantasma started a brief feud with Drake Maverick which they won. Escobar’s next feud was against Isaiah “Swerve” Scott where he defended his title against Scott at NXT TakeOver: 31 and retained.

At NXT: Halloween Havoc, Santos Escobar defeated Jake Atlas in a non title match. At NXT: New Years Evil, Escobar defended his championship against Gran Metalik and retained the title as well as retaining against Curt Stallion on the February 3 episode of NXT. Escobar then started a brief, but losing feud with Karrion Kross .

Santos Escobar’s Cruiserweight Championship

Jordan Devlin then challenged Santos Escobar to a match where the winner would be the official NXT Cruiserweight Champion as Escobar was only the interim champion. On April 8, 2021, Escobar defeated Jordan Devlin in a ladder match at NXT TakeOver: Stand and Deliver Night Two. Escobar’s win crowned him as the new official NXT Cruiserweight Champion. On April 13, Santos Escobar lost the championship to Kushida after issuing an open challenge. His title reign ended at 321 days.

In a two out of three falls match on the May 11 episode of NXT, Escobar failed to regain his title from Kushida. Escobar and the other members of Legado del Fantasma then began feuding with NXT North American champion, Bronson Reed and NXT Tag Team champions, MSK. This led to a winners take all six-man tag team match at NXT TakeOver: In Your House. Legado del Fantasma was unsuccessful in winning the titles.

Shortly after, Escobar then started feuding with Hit Row and on the August 24th episode of NXT, Legado Del Fantasma defeated Hit Row in a six man tag team match with the help of a debuting Elektra Lopez. On the October 12th episode of NXT 2.0, Escobar faced Scott for the NXT North American title, but was unsuccessful.

Legado del Fantasma Drafted to SmackDown

On the October 7th edition of SmackDown, Escobar alongside Cruz Del Toro and Joaquin Wilde joined Zelina Vega on the SmackDown brand.

At the 2023 Royal Rumble on January 28, 2023, Escobar entered his first Royal Rumble match at #10 but was eliminated by Brock Lesnar.  Then, on the February 10th episode of SmackDown, Escobar competed in a four-way match to determine the number one contender to the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Escobar did not win the match. After the match, during an off-air exclusive uploaded to WWE’s YouTube channel, Escobar approached fellow competitor, Rey Mysterio. Thanking Mysterio for inspiring him as a wrestler and gifting him a mask of his own, Escobar received a mask from Mysterio in return, starting a face turn for Escobar.

Following this, Escobar became involved in the feud between Rey and his son Dominik Mysterio, assisting Rey in the feud against Dominik and The Judgment Day. On the March 3rd episode of SmackDown, Escobar faced Dominik in a match. He was defeated following interference from Rhea Ripley, after which Dominik tore up the mask Rey gave to Escobar. On the March 31st episode of SmackDown, Rey reformed the Latino World Order and invited Legado Del Fantasma to join as a token of appreciation for aiding him in his fight against Dominik and The Judgement Day
