Gionna Jene Daddio is a 28-year-old American professional wrestler currently signed to the WWE. She performs for the company’s SmackDown brand under the ring name, Liv Morgan, and is now the WWE Women’s SmackDown Champion.
Growing up in New Jersey, Daddio was a longtime fan of professional wrestling and would participate in wrestling matches with her five siblings.
In 2014, Daddio signed a contract with WWE after being discovered at Joe DeFranco’s gym in New Jersey. She was assigned to the company’s developmental brand, NXT, and made her first televised appearance at NXT TakeOver: Rival in February 2015 as a planted fan who jumped on Tyler Breeze during his ring entrance. She appeared again at NXT TakeOver: Unstoppable as part of Breeze’s entrance.
Liv Morgan’s NXT In-Ring Debut
Using the ring name, Marley, Daddio began in-ring action as a jobber in October 2015 where she lost to Eva Marie. In December, she appeared on NXT under her new ring name, Liv Morgan. In 2016, Liv Morgan competed in tag team competition and as a singles competitor for NXT.
Morgan made her main roster debut in November 2017 on SmackDown Live. She formed a tag team with Ruby Riott and Sarah Logan called, The Riott Squad. The Riott Squad made their in-ring debut in a winning effort against Charlotte Flair, Naomi, and Natalya that month.
In 2018, Morgan participated in both women’s Royal Rumble matches at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view and WrestleMania 34. She failed to win either match. In April 2019, Liv Morgan was assigned to the SmackDown brand during the SuperStar Shake-up which resulted in the break up of the Riott Squad. She was later drafted back to the RAW brand in October as the final overall pick of the year’s draft.
Since then, Liv Morgan has competed in WrestleMania 36 and various single matches. As part of the WWE Draft in October 2020, Liv Morgan was drafted to SmackDown. She is part of the Riott Squad with Ruby Riott.
Liv Morgan Returns to Singles Competition
After Survivor Series, Ruby Riott and Liv Morgan began a tag team winning streak. At WrestleMania 37’s Night One, they challenged for a shot at the tag team titles but failed to win. Ruby Riott was released from the company on June 2, 2021, which disbanded the Riott Squad for a second time.
On the June 4th episode of SmackDown, Liv Morgan returned to singles competition by facing Carmella in a losing effort. The following week, they had a rematch in which Morgan was finally able to defeat Carmella and later said the same night, that she has eyes on the SmackDown Women’s Championship.
Liv Morgan took issue with Sonya Deville for adding Carmella and a returning Zelina Vega to the women’s ladder match at Money in the Bank. She defeated Carmella and Vega in singles matches before she took Carmella’s spot in the ladder match, with Carmella competing against Bianca Belair for the SmackDown Women’s Championship the following week. This was due to Bayley suffering a legitimate injury while training, causing her “I Quit” match with Belair at Money in the Bank to be cancelled.
On the September 17th episode of Smackdown, Morgan teamed with Toni Storm to take on Zelina Vega and Carmella. The match ended via count out, which then lead to Morgan challenging Carmella to a match at Extreme Rules. Liv Morgan lost to Carmella.
Liv Morgan Drafted To RAW
As part of the WWE Draft in October 2021, Morgan was drafted to WWE’s RAW brand. Later that month, Morgan entered the Queen’s Crown tournament. She lost to Carmella in the first round.
On the November 8th edition of RAW, Morgan won a Fatal 5-Way match to earn a RAW Women’s Championship match which was held by Becky Lynch. Morgan then received her title match against Lynch in the December 6 episode of RAW, where Lynch retained the title. In a rematch at WWE Day 1, Lynch defeated Morgan again.
Morgan Wins Money in the Bank & Gold
On the June 13th episode of RAW, Morgan teamed with Alexa Bliss to defeat Doudrop and Nikki A.S.H. in a tag team match to qualify for the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.
At the event, on July 2, Morgan won the women’s Money in the Bank ladder match. This granted her a guaranteed match of her choice for either the RAW or SmackDown Women’s Championship. Just hours after her win, Liv Morgan cashed in her Money in the Bank contract and defeated SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey to win the title.SHOW LESS
