DOMINIK MYSTERIO

Dominik Gutiérrez is a 26-year-old professional wrestler from San Diego, California. He is signed with the WWE and performs on the company’s RAW brand under the ring name, Dominik Mysterio.

Dominik’s Early WWE Television Appearances

Dominik is a third generation wrestler; he is the son of WWE Superstar Rey Mysterio Jr., and the great-nephew of Rey Mysterio Sr. While Dominik made his wrestling debut in 2020, he has been no stranger on WWE television. Dominik made his first appearance on WWE television in 2003 sitting in the crowd. He watched as his father Rey Mysterio defeated Matt Hardy for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.

Following the win, Dominik entered the ring to celebrate with his father. In 2005, Dominik made another appearance at only 8 years old. He was written into a storyline where Rey Mysterio would face Eddie Guerrero at SummerSlam. As part of the storyline, Guerrero claimed to be Dominik’s biological father. To settle it, Rey and Guerrero would battle in the infamous “custody of Dominik ladder match.” Mysterio defeated Guerrero for custody of Dominik at SummerSlam.

Dominik made two additional appearances in 2006. His first appearance was at WrestleMania 22 watching his father win the World Heavyweight Championship for the first time. Second, on the September 15th episode of SmackDown where he watched backstage as his father battled with Mr. Kennedy. Mysterio lost this match after Chavo Guerrero and Vickie Guerrero showed up on the stage with Gutiérrez to distract Mysterio as Kennedy rolled him up for the win. He once again appeared on the March 12, 2010 episode of SmackDown, this time during the feud between Rey Mysterio and the Straight Edge Society (CM Punk, Luke Gallows, and Serena).

Dominik Mysterio’s Wrestling Debut

In March 2019, on SmackDown Live, Dominik showed up with his father acting as his father’s manager. As his father’s manager, Dominik was physical at times at ringside like when he tried to help his father defeat Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series 2019. In May 2020, WWE began building up Dominik’s in-ring debut. He assisted Rey Mysterio, Humberto Carrillo, and Aleister Black in their feud with Seth Rollins and Buddy Murphy. As a result, Dominik Mysterio challenged Seth Rollins to a match at SummerSlam which he lost. A week later, at WWE’s Payback event, Dominik Mysterio teamed up with his father to take on Seth Rollins and Murphy in a winning tag team match.

Dominik & Rey Mysterio Drafted to SmackDown

At the WWE’s 2020 October Draft, the Mysterios were drafted to SmackDown but their feud with Rollins didn’t end until November when Rey Mysterio defeated Rollins in a one on one match. At the Survivor Series 2020 Kickoff show, Dominik Mysterio was the last person eliminated by The Miz in a dual branded battle royal. From here the Mysterios began feuding with King Corbin. At the 2021 Royal Rumble event, Dominik eliminated Corbin before being eliminated himself by Bobby Lashley.

On the special WrestleMania edition of SmackDown, Dominik and Rey Mysterio faced Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode, Chad Gable and Otis, and The Street Profits in a fatal 4-way tag team match for the SmackDown Tag Team titles. They lost the match after Ziggler and Roode retained the SmackDown Tag Team titles.

Dominik & Rey Mysterio Win Tag Team Titles

At WrestleMania Backlash, Dominik and Rey Mysterio won the SmackDown tag team championship titles. This was Dominik’s first WWE Championship and this win made the Mysterios the first father and son tag team champions in WWE history.

On July 18th, 2021, the Mysterios lost the SmackDown titles at the kickoff show for Money in the Bank 2021 to The Usos. Their reign lasted 63 days. In a rematch against The Usos at SummerSlam, the Mysterios failed to regain the titles. As part of the WWE Draft in October 2021, both Dominik and Rey Mysterio were drafted to Monday Night RAW.

At the 2022 Royal Rumble on January 29, Dominik entered the Royal Rumble match at #14. He was quickly eliminated by Happy Corbin. On the February 21, 2022 edition of RAW, The Miz challenged The Mysterios to a tag team match at WrestleMania. The Miz’s partner would be Logan Paul and the Mysterios accepted.

At WrestleMania 38, the Mysterios lost to the Miz and Logan Paul. On the following episode of RAW, Dominik lost to The Miz in a singles match. After the match, he and his father were attacked by Veer Mahaan. Dominik then faced Mahaan in a match alone, only to be easily defeated, and injured, so he had to be taken out on a stretcher.

Mysterios Begin Feuding with the Judgment Day

In the summer of 2022, The Mysterios began feuding with The Judgment Day (Finn Bálor, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley) over their attempts to recruit Dominik into the group and betray his father. At SummerSlam, The Mysterios defeated Bálor and Priest after Edge returned and interfered.  After losing an Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship match on the following episode of RAW, The Judgment Day attacked the Mysterios before Edge came out to save them, but accidentally speared Dominik. The following week, Dominik confronted Edge backstage and shoved him.

Dominik accompanied Edge and Rey for their match against The Judgment Day at Clash at the Castle on September 3, which they won. After the match, Dominik viciously hit Edge with a low blow. While Rey was begging for him to stop, Dominik hit his father with a clothesline. Dominik turned heel for the first time in his career.

Dominik Joins The Judgment Day

On the following episode of RAW, Dominik officially joined The Judgment Day, helping the group attack Edge and Rey. Dominik then took on a gimmick mirroring Eddie Guerrero’s Latino Heat while together with Ripley, with Ripley calling herself as Dominik’s “Mami”. Dominik lost to Edge by disqualification after Bálor attacked Edge with a steel chair on the September 12 episode of RAW. The next week, Dominik scored his biggest singles match win by pinning AJ Styles after interference from Rhea Ripley.

At Crown Jewel on November 5th, Dominik, Bálor, and Priest defeated The O.C. (AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) in a six-man tag team match after interference from Ripley. On the November 28th episode of RAW, The Judgment Day defeated The O.C in an eight-person mixed tag team match to end their feud.

On Thanksgiving, Dominik invited Rhea Ripley to the Mysterio family home. After Rey refused to let them into the house, Dominik and Ripley attacked Rey.  Then, on Christmas Eve, Dominik and Ripley visited Dominik’s grandparents’ home. A confrontation then started between Dominik, Ripley, Rey and Angie (Rey’s wife and Dominik’s mother) outside of the house. Dominik shoved Rey and Angie slapped Ripley. The police arrived shortly after and (kayfabe) arrested Dominik. After being released from police custody, Dominik took on an additional gimmick of being a former convict who had served time in prison with the world’s most dangerous people. But, in reality, Dominik was only in county jail for a few hours.

Dominik Continues to Feud with Family

On the January 9, 2023, episode of RAW, Dominik, Bálor and Priest won a Raw Tag Team Championship opportunity against The Usos by winning a tag team turmoil match. At Raw is XXX, The Usos successfully defended the championship against Dominik and Priest despite Jimmy Uso’s injury, with Sami Zayn taking Jimmy’s place.

At the Royal Rumble on January 28, Dominik and The Judgment Day presumably took out Rey Mysterio who was scheduled to enter at #17. Dominik entered at #18 while wearing his father’s mask but was eliminated by the eventual winner Cody Rhodes.

On the March 10 episode of SmackDown, Dominik and The Judgment Day interrupted Rey as he was about to address being the first inductee to the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023. After The Judgment Day defeated Legado Del Fantasma (who were a heel group and had recently turned face for siding with Rey) in a six-man tag team match, Dominik taunted Rey into hitting him, saying that Rey was a “deadbeat dad.” He also said that “Dominik should have been Eddie’s son.” On the following episode of RAW, Dominik interrupted Rey again and challenged Rey to a match at WrestleMania 39. Rey declined the challenge, saying he would never fight his own son.

On the SmackDown before WrestleMania 39, Dominik continued to hassle Rey for a match at WrestleMania. When Rey left the ring, Dominik then berated his mother, Angie, who was at ringside with his younger sister, Aalyah, for being supportive of Rey. Dominik called her a deadbeat mom. Angie pulled the mic away but he snatched it back and told Angie to “shut up”. Rey walked back to ringside, punched Dominik, and accepted his challenge.

Dominik vs Rey at WrestleMania 39

During the 2023 Hall of Fame ceremony, Dominik, Rhea Ripley and Damian Priest remained seated while the rest of the roster stood up to applaud Rey during his entrance for his Hall of Fame induction. When Rey was about to start his induction speech, they left their seats and walked backstage. On Night 1 of WrestleMania 39, Dominik lost to Rey after interference from Legado Del Fantasma and Bad Bunny.

On the RAW after WrestleMania 39, Dominik confronted Bad Bunny for his involvement in Dominik’s match against Rey. Bad Bunny hit Dominik, which led to Priest choke-slamming Bad Bunny through the announcer’s table.

On July 18, 2023, Dominik Mysterio claimed his first standalone title when he defeated Wes Lee on NXT for the NXT North American Championship. At NXT No Mercy on September 30th, Dominik Mysterio lost the title to Trick Williams. Three days later, in a rematch, Dominik Mysterio defeated Williams with the help of the Judgment Day. On December 9th, at NXT Deadline, Dirty Dominik Mysterio lost the NXT North American Championship to Dragon Lee.
