CHAD GABLE

Charles Betts is a 37-year-old former amateur and professional wrestler from Saint Michael, Minnesota. He is currently signed with the WWE and performs on RAW under the ring name, Chad Gable.

In high school, Betts was a Minnesota high school state champion. He defeated Jordan Holm in the final of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials in the 84 kg category. Betts progressed to the 2012 Summer Olympics, where he competed in the Greco-Roman style 84 kg event. He defeated Keitani Graham in the qualification round, but was eliminated from the competition in the next round by Pablo Shorey.

Charles Betts Signs WWE Contract

Betts signed a developmental contract with WWE in November 2013. He started training at the WWE Performance Center in Florida. Early in his career, Betts adopted the ring name, Chad Gable. In January 2015, he made his television debut losing to Tyler Breeze in his first match. A few months later in May, Gable started a storyline with Jason Jordan in which he kept trying to convince Jordan to team with him. After two months, Jason Jordan finally agreed and this marked the beginning of the tag team, American Alpha.

At NXT TakeOver: Dallas, the Gable and Jordan won the NXT Tag Team Championships from The Revival. At NXT TakeOver: The End, they lost the titles back to The Revival. Gable and Jordan wrestled their last match in a July 2016 episode of NXT where they lost to the Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar).

Gable’s Main Roster Debut

At the WWE 2016 Draft, Chad Gable and Jason Jordan were drafted to SmackDown. The duo had their first main roster match against The Vaudevillians, which they they won. Gable and Jordan entered into an eight team tournament to crown the first ever WWE SmackDown Tag Team Champions. They defeated Breezango in the first round and The Usos in the second. After the match, the Usos attacked Gable and Jordan injuring Gable in kayfabe.

On SmackDown in December 2016, American Alpha defeated Bray Wyatt and Randy Orton, Heath Slater and Rhyno, and The Usos, to become the new SmackDown Tag Team Champions. They lost the titles to the Usos on SmackDown a few months later.

Later that year Jason Jordan was drafted to RAW so Chad Gable was put in a tag team with the returning Shelton Benjamin. The team of Gable and Benjamin had a few title matches but failed to win the titles. In 2018, Gable was moved to Monday Night RAW which resulted in him and Shelton Benjamin disbanding as a team. Gable then formed a tag team with Bobby Roode and he started wearing a robe to the ring just like Roode. The duo won the RAW Tag Team Championships and he became the second man to win the RAW, SmackDown, and NXT Tag Team Championships with the only person doing it before him being Jason Jordan. On February 11, 2019, Chad Gable and Bobby Roode lost their titles to the Revival on Monday Night RAW. Gable and Roode had a few more title matches but never won back the titles.

Shorty G Ring Name

During the 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-up, Gable was drafted to SmackDown and his partnership with Bobby Roode ended. In August, he competed in the King of the Ring tournament where he defeated Shelton Benjamin, Andrade, and Shane McMahon. In the finals, he lost to Baron Corbin in the finals. Chad Gable was then renamed to Shorty Gable and then renamed to Shorty G a little while after.

Shorty G was part of the winning Team Hogan alongside Roman Reigns, Mustafa Ali, Ricochet, and Rusev at Crown Jewel 2019. He was also part of Team SmackDown at Survivor Series 2019 alongside Roman Reigns, King Corbin, Braun Strowman, and Mustafa Ali. Shorty G was eliminated by Kevin Owens in the match. He then entered a feud with Sheamus where he lost every single match.
