He won the United States Championship, his first singles championship, in October 2009 when by defeating Kofi Kingston on RAW. In January 2010, The Miz and Big Show formed a tag team dubbed, “ShoMiz.” Together, they defeated D-Generation X and The Straight Edge Society to become the Unified WWE Tag Team Champions. With this win, The Miz became the first wrestler in WWE history to hold three championships at the same time (United States, World Tag Team and WWE Tag Team Champion). They lost the titles to The Hart Dynasty the night after Extreme Rules on April 26.
The Miz Wins Money in the Bank
The following month, he lost the United States Championship to Bret Hart. He regained the title after he defeated R-Truth, John Morrison and Zack Ryder in a fatal four-way match less than a month later. At the 2010 Money in the Bank pay-per-view, The Miz won a Money in the bank ladder match giving him a contract for a WWE Championship match that he could utilize at any time. He made numerous attempts to cash in the contract on WWE champion, Sheamus, but the matches were continually interrupted by other wrestlers before the matches could occur.
The Miz and Daniel Bryan began a feud after Bryan returned to SummerSlam. Miz lost the United States Championship to Bryan at the Night of Champions in September. In November, Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract following a successful WWE Championship defense by Randy Orton against Wade Barrett to become the new WWE Champion. His reign lasted until May 1st when he lost to John Cena in a triple threat steel cage match also involving John Morrison. The Miz failed to regain the title in a rematch. At RAW 1000 in July 2012, Miz defeated Christian to win his first Intercontinental Championship and successfully defended his title for 85 days.
The following year, The Miz defeated Wade Barrett at the WrestleMania 29 pre-show but lost it back to Barrett the following night on RAW. He failed to regain the title at PayBack and Money in the Bank. At Battleground, Miz won a battle royal by lastly eliminating Dolph Ziggler to win the Intercontinental Championship for the third time. The Miz has since won the Intercontinental Championship five more times to make him an eight time Intercontinental champion.
The Miz & Maryse
After WrestleMania 32, The Miz’s wife, Maryse, returned to WWE and they proclaimed themselves to be the “it” couple. Throughout 2016, The Miz successfully defended his Intercontinental Championship with Maryse by his side who often interfered in matches. At the 2017 Royal Rumble, he entered at number 15 and lasted an impressive 32 minutes before being eliminated by The Undertaker. He also formed the stable, “The Miztourage,” with Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel in June 2017. The Miztourage feuded with various teams.
From 2017 to 2020, he was involved in various feuds and storylines. In 2018, he competed in the WWE World Cup tournament to determine the “Best Wrestler in the World” at the Crown Jewel event. He defeated Jeff Hardy and Rey Mysterio to advance to the finals but injured himself and was unable to compete against Dolph Ziggler. He also attempted to win the Intercontinental title from Shinsuke Nakamura several times but was unsuccessful.
Miz and Morrison Reunite
In 2020, The Miz reunited with his former tag team partner John Morrison, who made his return to WWE. He participated in the 2020 Royal Rumble match but was eliminated by Drew McIntyre in 30 seconds.
At Super ShowDown in February, Miz and Morrison won the SmackDown Tag Team Championship from The New Day. They lost the titles back to The New Day after Miz unsuccessfully defended the titles by himself in a triple threat match against Big E and Jey Uso. Their reign lasted 50 days. They attempted to win the titles back in a rematch but were not successful. The Miz and Morrison then started feuding with Braun Strowman and challenged him for his Universal Championship but they lost at Backlash in a two-on-one handicap match.
At the 2020 WWE Draft in October, The Miz was drafted to RAW.
The Miz Wins WWE Championship
At the WWE’s Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event, The Miz cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and pinned Drew McIntyre to become the WWE Champion for the second time. On March 1st, 2021, he lost the title to Bobby Lashley, ending his reign at only 8 days.
Miz and Morrison then began feuding with Damian Priest and rapper Bad Bunny. At WrestleMania 37, he and Morrison were defeated by Bad Bunny and Priest. At WrestleMania Backlash the following month, Miz lost to Damian Priest. After the match, he was “eaten” by zombies as a way to cross-promote the movie, Army of the Dead.
During the match, Miz suffered the first legitimate injury in his WWE career. He tore his ACL which took him out of action indefinitely. Despite his injury, Miz still continued appearing television in a wheelchair accompanying Morrison in his matches. Miz returned from injury on the August 16 episode of Raw, losing to Damian Priest. The next week on RAW, Miz attacked Morrison, ending their partnership. The Miz took time off to compete on the 30th season of Dancing with the Stars.
Miz and Maryse Form An Alliance
Miz, along with Maryse, returned to WWE television on the November 29th episode of RAW where he confronted Edge. The following week on RAW, after another heated verbal exchange, he challenged Edge to a match at Day 1 which he accepted. At Day 1, Miz lost to Edge. The following week, The Miz accepted a challenge by Edge and Beth Phoenix for a mixed-tag team match at Royal Rumble between him and Maryse. Edge and Beth Phoenix defeated Miz and Maryse.
At WrestleMania 38, Miz partnered with social media star Logan Paul to defeat The Mysterios. After the match, Miz performed his finishing maneuver, the Skull Crushing Finale, on Logan Paul, subsequently turning on him. They began a feud which led to a match between the two at SummerSlam, which Paul won. On the August 8th episode of RAW, Miz lost to Styles in a no disqualification match.
The Miz Feuds with Dexter Lumis
A few weeks later, The Miz was kidnapped by Dexter Lumis. Over the next few weeks, Lumis continued to attack him and stalk him. Later, it was later revealed by Johnny Gargano that The Miz had been paying Lumis to stage these attacks to gain him publicity. The Miz then stopped paying Lumis, and the attacks became real.
The Miz challenged Bobby Lashley for the United States Championship in a steel cage match on the September 5th episode of RAW, but lost after Lumis interfered. On the November 28th episode of RAW, Miz lost to Lumis in an Anything Goes match where Lumis earned a WWE contract. On the December 19th episode of RAW, he defeated Lumis in a Winner Takes All Ladder Match of prize money after interference from the returning Bronson Reed ending their feud.
At the 2023 Royal Rumble on January 28, Miz entered the titular match third but was eliminated by Sheamus. On the February 20th episode of RAW, during the celebration of their anniversary, Maryse handed him an envelope which he promised to reveal its contents on the following episode of “Raw.” This led to him being named the official host of WrestleMania 39.
