Kevin Owens’ WWE Debut

In August 2014, it was announced by WWE that Steen had signed with the company and would be reporting to the company’s developmental brand, NXT. His ring name was changed to Kevin Owens which was a tribute to Steen’s son Owen, who was named after wrestler, Owen Hart.

Kevin Owens’ Main Roster Debut

Kevin Owens made his main roster debut on May 18, 2015 when he responded to John Cena’s United States Championship open challenge. Instead of competing in a match, Owens attacked Cena and stomped on the United States Championship belt. This began a feud between Owens and Cena but after several matches, Owens was not successful in beating Cena for the championship.

In September 2015, Kevin Owens won his first singles title at the Night of Champions. He defeated Ryback for the Intercontinental Championship. Kevin Owens then competed in a tournament for the vacant WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He defeated both Titus O’Neil and Neville but lost to Dean Ambrose in the semi-finals. A feud between Owens and Ambrose began which ended up with Owens losing the Intercontinental Championship at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs. His title reign lasted 84 days.

At Backlash, Owens defeated AJ Styles by count-out to retain the United States Championship. Owens was later announced as one of the participants in Money in the Bank ladder match at Money in the Bank, along with Sami Zayn, Shinsuke Nakamura, Styles, Dolph Ziggler and Baron Corbin, in which Corbin emerged victorious.

After the pay-per-view, Owens announced he would be taking time off. After a brief hiatus, Owens returned on the July 2 episode of SmackDown, defeating Zayn in a Last Man Standing match to qualify for the Money in the Bank ladder match. At the event, Owens failed to win the contract.

Owens Drafted Back to RAW

As part of the 2021 Draft, Kevin Owens was drafted to the RAW brand. He then entered a storyline with WWE Champion Big E and Seth Rollins which began on the November 1 episode of RAW after Big E hit the Big Ending on Owens after their non-title match. The following week on RAW, Owens attacked Big E after the former’s match against Rollins, thus turning heel for the first time since 2019.

The following week, Owens attacked Finn Bálor following their match, cementing his heel turn. On the November 29 episode of RAW, Owens defeated Big E by disqualification to be added to the WWE Championship match at the Day 1 pay-per-view, making it a triple threat match.
