CHELSEA GREEN

Chelsea Anne Cardona (née Green) is a 33-year-old Canadian professional wrestler from Vancouver, British Columbia. She is currently signed with WWE and performs on Monday Night RAW brand under the ring name, Chelsea Green.

Chelsea Green’s Early Wrestling Career

She began her wrestling career for Elite Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW) under the ring name, Jaida. Her first match was on May 31st 2014 at ECCW’s Better Than You. She teamed with Brady Malibu and MR2 in a losing six-man tag match. She next joined a Women’s title tournament, winning the first round against Kaitlin Diamond. At the conclusion of the Women’s title tournament held at ECCW Payoff in December, she defeated Kate Carney in the semi-finals.

In 2016, Chelsea toured Japan twice for World Wonder Ring Stardom (WWRS). Her first tour was three months long, but was cut short by a broken collarbone she sustained while wrestling in India. Her second tour of Japan was later in 2016, teaming with Santana Garrett for the 2016 Goddesses of Stardom Tag League. On this tour, she also challenged Wonder of Stardom Champion Kairi Hojo to a match but she lost. Green was undefeated in singles bouts in Japan, prior to her loss to Kairi Hojo.

In September 2018, Green performed on the “All In” pay-per-view show, the first independent wrestling event in the USA. Green wrestled Britt Baker, Madison Rayne, and Tessa Blanchard in a Four corner survival match.

Green’s TNA Wrestling Debut

Green made her Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA) debut under the ring name “Chelsea,” losing to Jade on January 17, 2016. The following night on January 8 at TNA One Night Only: Live!, she wrestled in a number one contenders gauntlet battle royal match for the TNA Knockouts Championship, entering the ongoing match at number four before being eliminated by Awesome Kong. Green officially signed with Impact in June 2016. She made her televised debut as a heel on the September 29 episode of Impact Wrestling. Her new ring name was Laurel Van Ness and she defeated Madison Rayne.

In January 2018, Impact Wrestling released Green after she had asked for her contractual release from the company several months earlier. At the time, Impact refused as she held the company’s Knockouts Title. Shortly after leaving Impact, Chelsea debuted during the season four tapings of Lucha Underground on February 25 2018, under the stage name “Reklusa.” She wrestled a fatal 4-Way with Jeremiah Crane, XO Lishus, and Marty “The Moth” Martinez. On October 10, Reklusa lost to Pentagón Dark in the main event.

Chelsea Green’s WWE Debut

Chelsea took part in WWE tryouts and was signed on August 3, 2018. She started at the WWE Performance Center on October 8, 2018 and made her NXT in-ring debut at a live event on October 26. Green wrestled under her familiar “psychotic” gimmick. At her first TV match on March 13 2019, Chelsea suffered a broken wrist and underwent surgery the following day. She made her return a few months later in June.

In December 2019, Green appeared on Monday Night RAW losing to Charlotte Flair. She competed in the Women’s Royal Rumble match on January 26 2020 which was won by Charlotte Flair. On NXT’s March 4th episode, Green defeated Shotzi Blackheart. This win qualified her to compete in a ladder match at NXT TakeOver: Tampa Bay to determine the #1 contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. The ladder match was moved to the April 8 episode of NXT which was won by Io Shirai. On the May 27 episode of NXT, Chelsea fired Robert Stone.

Green made her SmackDown debut on the November 13, 2020 edition of the show. She participated in a fatal four-way qualifying match against Liv Morgan, Natalya, and Tamina. Following that match, it was revealed that Green had broken her wrist again. The planned finish which saw Green winning had to be changed to Morgan as a result. After months of inactivity, on April 15, 2021, WWE released Green from her contract alongside several other wrestlers.

Green Debuts at Ring of Honor

Chelsea made her surprise debut at Ring of Honor (ROH)’s Best in the World pay-per-view event. She was scheduled to wrestle in the ROH Women’s World Championship tournament. However, Green was not medically cleared in time to participate due to her fractured wrist. While recovering from that injury, Green appeared as one of the onscreen commentators for the tournament’s first round matches.

Chelsea Returns to Impact Wrestling

On July 17, 2021 at Slammiversary, Chelsea returned to Impact Wrestling, but under her real name. She wrestled in an intergender tag team match with real-life fiancé Matt Cardona, defeating Brian Myers and Tenille Dashwood. In October, she entered the tournament to crown the first Impact Digital Media Champion. She defeated Madison Rayne in the first round but lost to Jordynne Grace in the finals at the Bound for Glory pay-per-view show.

On January 8, 2022, at Hard to Kill, Chelsea participated in the inaugural Knockouts Ultimate X match, which was won by Tasha Steelz. On the July 21st episode of Impact!, Green alongside Deonna Purrazzo, now dubbed as “VXT”, were victorious against the Knockouts World Champions Jordynne Grace and Mia Yim. At Emergence’s pre-show in August, VXT defeated Rosemary and Taya Valkyrie to win the Impact Knockouts World Tag Team Championship. They lost the title on October 7th at Bound for Glory to The Death Dollz (Jessicka, Rosemary and Valkyrie). Their reign lasted 56 days. Chelsea had her last match with the company against Mickie James on the November 11th episode of Impact in a losing effort. After her loss to James, Chelsea and Purazzo had a backstage segment where Chelsea said she was “going home”. It would then be reported that she had left Impact officially.

Chelsea Returns to WWE

On January 28, 2023, Green made her surprise return to WWE at the 2023 Royal Rumble as a participant in the Women’s Royal Rumble match. She entered the match at number 20 but was quickly eliminated by Rhea Ripley in five seconds – a Women’s Royal Rumble record. Upon her return, she became a member of the RAW brand.

On the March 27th episode of Monday Night RAW, Green teamed up with Sonya Deville and defeated the team of “Michin” Mia Yim and Candice LeRae to qualify for the Women’s WrestleMania Showcase match. At WrestleMania 39, Green and Deville lost to Ronda Rousey and Shayna Baszler. As part of the WWE 2023 Draft, both Chelsea and Sonya Deville were drafted to RAW. On the July 3rd episode of RAW, Green and Deville won a tag team turmoil match for a WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship opportunity.

Green’s First WWE Championship

On the July 17th episode of RAW, Green and Deville defeated Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez to win the tag team titles. However, on August 7th, Deville was reported to have suffered an ACL injury. She had to relinquish her half of the tag team title. On the August 14 episode of RAW, despite Green wanting to hold auditions for a new tag team partner, a returning Piper Niven took one half of the tag team titles and declared she would be Green’s new partner.
