JD MCDONAGH

Jordan Devlin is a 33-year-old professional wrestler from Ireland. He is currently signed with World Wrestling Entertainment’s RAW brand under the ring name, JD McDonagh.

Jordan Devlin was only 12 years old when he began his wrestling training with Finn Bálor and Paul Tracey. At the age of 21, Devlin wrestled in Japan for six months. He was the inaugural World Heavyweight Champion for the Over The Top Wrestling promotion.

Devlin’s Early Wrestling Career

In January 2017, Devlin was one of 16 competitors who competed in the first ever United Kingdom Championship Tournament. Devlin defeated Danny Burch in the first round but was defeated in the quarterfinals by Tyler Bate.

In 2018, Devlin also competed in the second United Kingdom Championship tournament. He defeated Tyson T-Bone in the first round but lost to Flash Morgan Webster in the second round.

At NXT UK Takeover: Blackpool in January 2019, Devlin proclaimed himself to be the best wrestler in Ireland and he agreed to fight an unknown wrestler who turned out to be Finn Bálor. Bálor defeated Devlin after performing his signature coup de grace on Devlin.

Devlin Wins 15-Man Battle Royal

At the end of January 2020, Devlin competed in the Worlds Collide tournament which featured superstars from NXT, 205 Live, and NXT UK. He won a 15-man battle royal to earn a bye in the first round. He defeated Drew Gulak in the quarterfinals but lost to Velveteen Dream in the semi-finals.

At NXT’s Worlds Collide, Devlin was victorious in a Fatal 4 Way match where he defeated Angel Garza, Travis Banks, and Isaiah “Swerve” Scott to become the NXT Cruiserweight Champion. Devlin successfully defended his title against Lio Rush, Tony Nese, Tyler Breeze and Travis Banks. But in April, Devlin was unable to compete due to the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown which resulted in NXT’s announcement of a tournament to crown an Interim Cruiserweight Champion which was won by Santos Escobar.

On March 10th, 2021, it was announced that Jordan Devlin would appear on NXT the following week to enter into his feud with the interim Cruiserweight Champion, Santos Escobar. On Night 2 of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, Escobar defeated Devlin to end his reign at 438 days.

The following week, Devlin confronted Ilja Dragunov. Devlin did not say anything to Dragunov but he made his intentions to challenge him for the NXT UK Championship very clear. He faced Ilja Dragunov in an empty arena but failed to win the NXT UK Championship. Jordan did get another chance at the NXT UK Championship but there was the stipulation that the loser would leave the brand. The match took place on the 200th episode of NXT UK and Devlin lost. This marked his final appearance on NXT UK.

Move to NXT & JD McDonagh

On the June 21st episode of NXT 2.0, a vignette aired announcing Devlin’s arrival on the NXT brand under the new ring name JD McDonagh. At NXT: The Great American Bash on July 5th, JD McDonagh made his debut by attacking NXT Champion Bron Breakker after he defended the title against Cameron Grimes.

On the July 12th episode of NXT 2.0, McDonagh interrupted Grimes on stage and attacked him. This set up a match between the two the following week, which he won. At NXT Heatwave on August 16th, McDonagh unsuccessfully challenged Breakker for the NXT Championship. He received another title shot, at Halloween Havoc on October 22, in a triple threat match also involving Ilja Dragunov, but once again failed to win the title.
