Carlos Ruiz is a 27-year-old Spanish professional wrestler from Madrid, Spain. He is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment’s NXT brand. Ruiz’s ring name is Axiom.
Ruiz’s Early Wrestling Career
Ruiz began his wrestling career in 2012 and competed on various American and European independent wrestling circuits including Pro Wrestling Guerilla, Progress Wrestling, Chikara, Defiant Wrestling and White Wolf Wrestling (Triple W).
In 2016, Ruiz competed with Rod Zayas and Adam Chase in Chikara’s King of Trious tournament as the faction, “House White Wolf.” They were defeated by House British Strong Style (Pete Dunne, Trent Seven and Tyler Bate) in the tournament’s first round. The following year, Ruiz competed in the Chikaras Rey de Voladores tournament but he lost in the finals by Air Wolf.
Ruiz teamed with Adam Chase (now known as Carlos Romos) and together they wrestled in the British circuit as Team White Wolf and won the Attack! Tag Team Championships in 2018.
Ruiz Debuts on WWE
A-Kid made his WWE NXT UK debut alongside his tag team partner Carlos Romos on April 20, 2019 where they were defeated by Gallus (Mark Coffey and Wolfgang). On October 17 2019, WWE announced that A-Kid was signed for WWE’s NXT UK brand. A few weeks later on October 31, 2019, he made his singles debut defeating Kassius Ohno.
On November 26, 2020, A-Kid became the first ever NXT UK Heritage Cup Champion when defeated Trent Seven in the tournament’s finals. A-Kid lost the NXT UK Heritage Cup Championship on May 20, 2021 to Tyler Bate on an episode of WWE’s NXT UK. On the October 14 episode, A-Kid faced Ilja Dragunov for the NXT United Kingdom Championship, but was defeated.
New Ring Name & NXT
In July 2022, Ruiz was repackaged as a superhero masked wrestler named Axiom and moved to NXT. He competed on the July 19 episode of NXT 2.0 defeating Dante Chen. He then entered a best of three series against Nathan Frazer where he won the first match on the September 6th episode of NXT 2. He lost the other two matches. At NXT Deadline, Axiom failed to win the Iron Survivor Challenge. He then entered a brief rivalry with Carmelo Hayes where he lost to him on the December 13th episode of NXT. Axiom defeated Trick Williams on the January 17 episode of NXT. At NXT Stand & Deliver, Axiom did not win the NXT North American Championship. He lost again on the following episode of NXT to Wes Lee.
Axiom entered a rivalry with Scrypts where he defeated him on the May 2nd episode of NXT. Shortly afterward, the two started teaming after Scrypts turned face. On the July 18th edition of NXT, Scrypts turned on Axiom and aligned himself with the debuting Bronco Nima & Lucien Price during their scheduled match.
Axiom’s Main Roster Debut
Axiom wrestled his main roster debut match on the November 17, 2023 episode of SmackDown against Dragon Lee. Axiom also formed a tag team partnership with Nathan Frazer. In early 2024, Axiom and Frazer participated in the NXT Tag Team Championship Eliminator Tournament. They defeated No Quarter Catch Crew (Charlie Dempsey and Myles Borne) in the first round. In the second round they beat the Latino World Order (Joaquin Wilde and Cruz Del Toro) and The O.C. (Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson) in a triple threat tag team match in the final to face NXT Tag Team Champions The Wolf Dogs (Baron Corbin and Bron Breakker) for the titles at NXT Stand & Deliver but failed to win the match.
In a rematch on the following episode of NXT, Frazer and Axiom defeated The Wolf Dogs to become the new NXT Tag Team Champions. After the match, The Final Testament’s Authors of Pain (AOP) returned to NXT and attacked Frazer and Axiom.[29] At Week 2 of Spring Breakin’, Axiom and Frazer successfully defended their titles against AOP after interference from New Catch Republic.
