Simone Garcia Johnson is a 23-year-old professional wrestler from Florida. She is currently signed with World Wrestling Entertainment and performs on the company’s NXT brand under the ring name, Ava.
Simone Johnson is a fourth-generation wrestler. She is the daughter of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and is a member of the Maivia-Anoa’i family of Samoan wrestlers. She attended the private high school of NSU University School, where she graduated and earned her diploma in May 2019 at 17-years-old. Initially, Simone had planned to study at New York University in August 2019, but suffered a knee injury a month earlier. Instead of college, Johnson decided to stay in Florida and pursue a professional wrestling career.
Simone Johnson’s Wrestling Career
In November 2017, Johnson expressed her interest in becoming a professional wrestler. In February 2020, WWE announced that Johnson had reported to the WWE Performance Center. Johnson began her training then, making her the first fourth-generation wrestler, and one of the youngest talents to sign a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment.
On the October 26th 2022 episode of NXT, Johnson made her first televised appearance. At her appearance, she revealed herself to be a member of Joe Gacy’s evil faction, The Schism. She debuted under the ring name “Ava Raine”, but this was later shortened to “Ava” on the February 14, 2023 episode. Ava made her in-ring debut on Sunday, April 1, 2023 at the third annual Stand & Deliver premium live event with The Schism, losing to Chase University.
Following Schism’s dissolution in September 2023, Ava took on the role of Senior Vice President of Talent Development Creative Shawn Michaels’ on-screen assistant. Her duties encompassed acting as a liaison between the performers and Michaels, as well as representing Michaels in making public statements. On January 23, 2024, she was elevated to the position of General Manager of NXT, marking her as the youngest general manager in WWE’s history.
Ava’s debut on the main roster occurred three days after her main roster debut on SmackDown, where she supported General Manager Nick Aldis during the Royal Rumble draw. At NXT Stand & Deliver on April 6, she unveiled the creation of the NXT Women’s North American Championship. This title was established as the counterpart to its male version, becoming the first women’s secondary championship in WWE.
