CAMERON GRIMES

Trevor Lee Caddell is a 30-year-old professional wrestler from Cameron, North Carolina. Caddell wrestles for the WWE and performs on SmackDown under the ring name, Cameron Grimes.

Caddell started his wrestling career in 2014 working for various independent wrestling promotions under the ring name, Trevor Lee. He was trained by WWE Superstars Matt and Jeff Hardy.

Caddell Wrestles on Independent Circuit

He started with the promotion CWF-Mid Atlantic in North Carolina. Caddell then made his debut for Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in March 2014 at Mystery Vortex II. At his debut, he lost to Andrew Everett in a three-way match also involving Cedric Alexander. But Caddell received a big push in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and defeated the top names in PWG including Kevin Steen (Kevin Owens), Chris Hero and Adam Cole. In February 2015, he had his first shot at the PWG World Championship against Roderick Strong but failed to capture the title.

Caddell teamed with Andrew Everett a few months later and won the 2015 DDT4 tournament defeating the Beaver Boys in the finals to win the PWG World Tag Team Championship. They lost the titles the following month to the Young Bucks.

From 2014 to 2019, Caddell also wrestled for other independent companies including OMEGA championship wrestling, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and Impact Wrestling.

Caddell Signs WWE Contract

Caddell signed with WWE in January 2019 and was assigned to the company’s NXT brand. He began working at the Performance Center in February and in June, he changed his ring name to Cameron Grimes.

As Cameron Grimes, Caddell made his television debut in July 2019 at the NXT Breakout Tournament defeating Isaiah Scott in the first round. In the next round, he defeated Bronson Reed to advance to the final round. He faced Jordan Myles (ACH) in the tournament’s final round but lost.

In the fall of 2019, Grimes had a winning streak defeating opponents including Raul Mendoza and Boa. He began feuding with Kushida when he attacked him backstage after Kushida beat him. Grimes issued a challenge to NXT North American Champion Keith Lee in February 2020 but was unsuccessful the following month.

At NXT TakeOver 30, Grimes defeated Velveteen Dream and Kushida to qualify for the NXT North American Championship ladder match. At the ladder match, Grimes was unsuccessful in winning the title. He then competed in the first ever Gauntlet Eliminator match on September 23rd to determine the #1 competitor for the NXT Championship at TakeOver 31 against Finn Bálor. He lost to Kyle O’Reilly.

Grimes then began feuding with Dexter Lumis throughout October. He then faced off against Lumis at Halloween Havoc where he lost by submission. Grimes and Lumis feuded throughout November and lost to Lumis in a strap match on December 6th at TakeOver: WarGames.

Grimes Suffers Legitimate Knee Injury

On the December 9th episode of NXT, Cameron Grimes lost to Tommaso Ciampa and was later attacked by Timothy Thatcher. It was announced the following week that Grimes was out injured for four to six weeks after Thatcher’s attack. This was used to write him off television as Grimes legitimately needed arthroscopic knee surgery.

Cameron Grimes Is the Richest Man in NXT

Grimes returned to NXT on the February 10th, 2021 episode with a new gimmick. He claimed to have become a GameStop investor during his time off thus making him the “richest man in NXT.” At TakeOver: Stand & Deliver, he lost the gauntlet match for a chance at a future North American Championship match.

On the April 27 episode of NXT, Grimes began a feud with WWE Hall of Famer Ted DiBiase after encountering him in a jewelry store over their watches. Over the next few weeks, “The Million Dollar Man” would continue to one-up Grimes, outbidding him in various purchases, and would end up costing Grimes a match to Jake Atlas on May 18.

The two then had a “Million Dollar Face-Off” on the May 25th episode where LA Knight attacked Grimes and aligned himself with DiBiase, turning Grimes into a babyface in the process. On the June 8 episode, DiBiase reintroduced the Million Dollar Championship and announced that the winner of a ladder match between Grimes and Knight at TakeOver: In Your House would win the title. Grimes was unsuccessful.

On the following episode of NXT, Grimes saved DiBiase from an attack by Knight further signaling his face turn. Grimes would then challenged Knight to a rematch for the title at The Great American Bash, under the stipulation that if he loses, he will be forced to become Knight’s butler. At the event, Grimes failed to win the title and was then forced to become Knight’s butler.

Grimes Wins Million Dollar Championship

At NXT Takeover 36 Cameron Grimes faced LA Knight once again for the Million Dollar Championship. The stipulation was that if he lost, Ted DiBiase would become LA Knight’s butler. Grimes defeated Knight at the event and won his first Million Dollar Championship.

On August 24, the storyline finally came to a conclusion on NXT, as they talked about Grimes’ journey to the title and how he was now headed “Straight to the moon!” The celebration ended with fake $100 bills with Grimes’ face raining down over the Capitol Wrestling Center.

Grimes faced Carmelo Hayes for the NXT North American Championship at the Vengeance Day special episode on February 15, 2022, and lost. On April 2, 2022 at NXT Stand & Deliver, Grimes won the NXT North American Championship, by defeating Carmelo Hayes, Santos Escobar, Solo Sikoa and Grayson Waller in a fatal five-way ladder match.

He made his first successful title defense against Solo Sikoa on the April 12 episode of NXT 2.0. Grimes would make another successful title defense in a Triple Threat match at NXT Spring Breakin’ against Carmelo Hayes and Solo Sikoa. On June 4 2022, Grimes lost the title at NXT In Your House 2022 to Carmelo Hayes.

Grimes then entered a rivalry with NXT Champion Bron Breakker, which culminated in a championship title match at NXT: The Great American Bash. Grimes failed to win the NXT Championship. On the July 12th edition of NXT 2.0, Grimes cut an emotional promo, only for JD McDonagh to interrupt and attack him. Grimes retaliated which set up a match for the following week, which he lost.  Shortly after, he entered a feud with Joe Gacy. During this rivalry, the debuting Ava Raine would join Schism and cost Grimes in his final match with Gacy on the November 8th episode of NXT.

Grimes Drafted to SmackDown

At the WWE 2023 Draft in April, Cameron Grimes was drafted to WWE’s SmackDown brand. Grimes made his main roster debut on the May 12th episode of SmackDown, defeating Baron Corbin in six seconds.
