JOSH BRIGGS
Josh Briggs (real name Joshua Bruns) is a 32-year-old professional wrestler from Bullhead City, Arizona. He is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He performs on the NXT brand.
WWE Signing and Early Career (2020–2021)
After WWE acquired EVOLVE Wrestling in July 2020, it was reported on August 31 that Briggs had officially signed with WWE. He reported to the WWE Performance Center in October 2020, beginning his transition into the NXT system. In July 2021, Briggs competed in the inaugural NXT Breakout Tournament. He was eliminated in the first round by future star Carmelo Hayes.
Josh Briggs Forms Tag Team with Brooks Jensen
On September 14, 2021, during the premiere of NXT 2.0, Josh Briggs formed a tag team with NXT newcomer Brooks Jensen. Though they lost their debut match to Imperium (Fabian Aichner and Marcel Barthel). They gained traction though and entered the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, but were eliminated by the Creed Brothers.
On the June 22, 2022 episode of NXT UK, Briggs and Jensen made history by winning the NXT UK Tag Team Championship. They defeated Dave Mastiff & Jack Starz, Mark Andrews & Wild Boar, and Die Familie (Teoman & Rohan Raja) in a Fatal 4-Way Elimination Match for the vacant titles. This marked them as first American team to win those championships.
Faction Split and Heel Turn
The team of Josh Briggs, Jensen, and Fallon Henley officially disbanded on the December 27, 2023 episode of NXT. Weeks later, Briggs turned heel after receiving a backstage endorsement from JBL and attacking Trick Williams. His heel turn continued with a scathing promo against Jensen. However, following a victory over Jensen on February 20, 2024, Briggs showed remorse and turned face again.
At NXT Roadblock, Briggs warned Jensen against challenging Oba Femi, but Jensen went through with the match and lost. Josh Briggs later faced Oba Femi and Dijak in a Triple Threat Match at NXT Stand & Deliver for the North American Championship, though he was unsuccessful in capturing the title.
Betrayal and No DQ Match
On July 9, 2024, Briggs helped a storyline-released Jensen return to NXT. However, Jensen turned on Je’Von Evans and later betrayed Briggs. This led to a heated No Disqualification Match, where Jensen, with help from Shawn Spears, defeated Briggs in a brutal showdown.
