WWE KING & QUEEN OF THE RING 2024 RECAP & REVIEW
KING AND QUEEN OF THE RING MATCH CARD
Liv Morgan defeated Becky Lynch. Singles match for the Women’s World Championship
WINNER: LIV MORGAN
OUR PREDICTION: LIV MORGAN
RATING: 8/10
This match was a great way to kick off the show. Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan both showed that they’re some of the best in the world despite all the doubters going into this match. The highlight of the match was undoubtedly the ending. Dominik Mysterio came out to ringside giving Becky Lynch a chair to hit Liv Morgan ensuring Morgan doesn’t take “Mami’s Championship”. Instead when the ref isn’t looking Liv Morgan hits Becky Lynch with an Oblivion on top of the chair letting her get the win. It is unclear now where the story goes from here, but it definitely is interesting. Great match with a great result.
Sami Zayn (c) defeated Chad Gable (with Otis) and Bronson Reed. Triple threat match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
WINNER: SAMI ZAYN
OUR PREDICTION: SAMI ZAYN
RATING: 9/10
This was probably the best Triple Threat match we’ve seen in a while. These three guys just went out there and did whatever they could to entertain the fans. Chad Gable hit a crazy suplex onto both Sami Zayn and Bronson Reed at the same time. Towards the end of the match we got Gable telling Otis to attack Sami Zayn and when Otis goes to charge Sami Zayn he misses and hits Gable instead. This allows Zayn to get back into the ring and pin Reed after a Helluva Kick. What a great match where all three guys were given a spotlight throughout.
Nia Jax (SmackDown) defeated Lyra Valkyria (Raw). Queen of the Ring tournament final
WINNER: NIA JAX
OUR PREDICTION: NIA JAX
RATING: 7/10
This match was probably the weakest of the night. That’s not a bad thing, every match on this show delivered from an in-ring perspective. This was probably one of Nia Jax’s best matches ever. The crowd was super loud for Lyra Valkyria which is always great to see for a new NXT call up, especially in front of the Saudi Arabian audience. Nia Jax winning was the best choice in this match, and that finish with her completely squashing Lyra Valkyria by landing on top of her was awesome. All hail Queen Nia, it’ll be interesting to see where this goes from here.
Gunther (Raw) defeated Randy Orton (SmackDown). King of the Ring tournament final
WINNER: GUNTHER
OUR PREDICTION: GUNTHER
RATING: 8/10
This was a dream match that definitely carried that big fight feel. With Randy Orton being past the prime of his wrestling career, this really felt like once in a lifetime and it completely delivered. Gunther winning was definitely the correct choice here and him putting up a 20-minute classic with Randy Orton was a great way to make him look like a main-eventer. The match ended in strange fashion however where Orton’s shoulders weren’t fully on the mat while getting pinned. Maybe this will lead to a rematch however I think it’s something that’ll just get looked over in the future. Besides the ending this was amazing and Gunther is the new King of the Ring.
Cody Rhodes (c) defeated Logan Paul. Singles match for the Undisputed WWE Championship
WINNER: CODY RHODES
OUR PREDICTION: CODY RHODES
RATING: 8/10
This match was amazing. WWE has been doing an amazing job with the production recently as the camera angles in this match made it feel like a movie. Look at the crazy camera shot of Logan doing his splash through the announce table for evidence of this. The match only being for the Undisputed title however made this far too predictable. I don’t think anyone ever had the thought in their mind that Logan Paul was going to win the title. Cody Rhodes has been an excellent champion so far, but hopefully, his next challenger is someone a little more believable. Still great stuff, Logan is far too good at this pro wrestling stuff.
