WRESTLEMANIA NIGHT 40 NIGHT ONE RECAP & REVIEW
WRESTLEMANIA 40 NIGHT ONE MATCH CARD
Rhea Ripley (c) defeated Becky Lynch. Singles match for the Women’s World Championship
WINNER: RHEA RIPLEY
OUR PREDICTION: RHEA RIPLEY
RATING: 8/10
The show kicked off with a World title match between Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley. The storyline heading into this one was a little weak if we’re being honest and it didn’t fully live up to the expectations that we had all hoped. The match itself however was the complete opposite of that, it was well paced, both women got time to shine, and Rhea Ripley looked dominant in defeat after winning the match with a Riptide.
A-Town Down Under (Austin Theory and Grayson Waller) and The Awesome Truth (The Miz and R-Truth) defeated The Judgment Day (Finn Bálor and Damian Priest) (c), #DIY (Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa), The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods), and New Catch Republic (Pete Dunne and Tyler Bate). Six-Pack Tag Team Ladder match for the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championship
WINNER: AT-TOWN DOWN UNDER & THE AWESOME TRUTH
OUR PREDICTION: THE AWESOME TRUTH
RATING: 8/10
The rules for this match were both sets of tag titles had to be retrieved for the match to end. The match started off strong and what should have been a 12-man disaster turned into a car wreck in the best way possible. Everyone got their spots to shine, especially A-Town Down Under as halfway through the match they grabbed the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships. As the match continued it was apparent Finn Balor and Damian Priest weren’t in the match as much, if this was to protect Priest for his cash in the next night however this is understandable. The match ended after R-Truth grabbed the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship to give The Awesome Truth their first WrestleMania victory. Great stuff although maybe this should have opened the show.
Rey Mysterio and Andrade (with Carlito, Cruz Del Toro, Joaquin Wilde, and Zelina Vega) defeated Santos Escobar and “Dirty” Dominik Mysterio (with Angel, Berto, and Elektra Lopez). Tag Team match
WINNER: REY MYSTERIO & ANDRADE
OUR PREDICTION: REY MYSTERIO & ANDRADE
RATING: 6/10
This match was alright. Sucks for Dragon Lee that he got replaced. It was a short one, quickly paced and things were going so well. It seemed like the heels were about to win the match at multiple points and then two big luchadores come out of the crowd. They attacked the heels and helped Andrade and Mysterio win. They unmask to reveal two NFL players. This was a lame finish, but the match itself was fine.
Jey Uso defeated Jimmy Uso. Singles match
WINNER: JEY USO
OUR PREDICTION: JEY USO
RATING: 3/10
This match was so underwhelming. It was essentially just a super kick party with that being almost the only big move done during the entire match. The storytelling also just wasn’t there. It was just built around them saying “Yeet” and “No Yeet”. This is no Bret Hart vs Owen Hart at WrestleMania 10, it’s just simply not good. The correct brother won the match however, and hopefully Jey Uso moves back up to the main event scene consistently.
Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, and Naomi defeated Damage CTRL (Dakota Kai, Asuka, and Kairi Sane). Six-woman tag team match
WINNER: JADE CARGILL, BIANCA BELAIR & NAOMI
OUR PREDICTION: JADE CARGILL, BIANCA BELAIR & NAOMI
RATING: 7/10
This was a good match that was no longer than it needed to be. We have six talented women on the card, Jade Cargill made her debut, and Bianca Belairs’ winning streak at WrestleMania continues. Damage CTRL did not look strong in defeat at all, but it’s acceptable here because who is beating the trio of Jade Cargill, Bianca Belair, and Naomi. This was good and served it’s purpose. Jade Cargill got the win for her team.
Sami Zayn defeated Gunther. Singles match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
WINNER: SAMI ZAYN
OUR PREDICTION: GUNTHER
RATING: 10/10
This was one of the best matches of the weekend. The story of this match was the Sami Zayn was the underdog who just couldn’t stay down. It got to the point where Gunther started toying with Sami Zayn and disrespecting him, which lead to Sami Zayn capitalizing off of Gunther’s mistake and hitting a nasty brain buster. After this he hits a Helluva Kick and ends the greatest Intercontinental Championship reign of all time. Amazing stuff.
The Bloodline (The Rock and Roman Reigns) (with Paul Heyman) defeated Cody Rhodes and Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Tag Team match
WINNER: THE BLOODLINE
OUR PREDICTION: THE BLOODLINE
RATING: 9/10
This was such a long match, and the first half of it wasn’t even very good. It was slow and strictly in the ring. But when The Rock told the referee that he would fire him if he counted him out, all hell broke loose. All four guys started fighting on the outside of the ring and The Rock took some insane bumps. However we got a repeat of WrestleMania 39 with The Bloodline standing tall over Cody Rhodes to finish night one of the weekend. Great stuff here and the callback to the previous year was amazing.
