WRESTLEMANIA BACKLASH 2022 RECAP & REVIEW

WRESTLEMANIA BACKLASH MATCH CARD

Cody Rhodes defeated Seth “Freakin” Rollins. Singles Match

WINNER: CODY RHODES
OUR PREDICTION: SETH ROLLINS
OUR RATING: 8/10

These two really had to prove themselves because their WrestleMania match was mostly good due to the shock factor of Cody Rhodes returning to the WWE. Now that Cody has been back for a while, it was time for him to prove that he can be a regular roster member and he proved that during this match. Cody and Seth put on a great opener, a super fast-paced match that we would argue was even better than their WrestleMania battle. The match ended after Cody Rhodes pinned Seth Rollins with a rollup. This is WWE’s way of saying that this rivalry will continue and probably culminate inside Hell in a Cell next month. Great match to open the show but Seth should have won.

Omos (with MVP) defeated Bobby Lashley. Singles Match

WINNER: OMOS
OUR PREDICTION: OMOS
OUR RATING: 5/10

This match was by far the worst on the card. Even though Omos is limited, he is definitely improving in the ring. As always, Lashley was amazing. MVP and Omos have been a great pairing so far and that really shined here when MVP helped Omos beat Bobby Lashley after attacking him with his cane. WWE knew that Omos was limited in the ring so instead of putting on a technical classic, they just used big move after big move and it worked. This was Omos’ best singles match yet and definitely better than their WrestleMania match. People are complaining that Omos won, but we think that Omos needed this win more than Lashley.

Edge defeated AJ Styles. Singles Match

WINNER: EDGE
OUR PREDICTION: EDGE
OUR RATING: 7/10

Something about their matches are just underwhelming. Don’t get us wrong the match was still great, but compared to the rest of their in ring work, it just feels kind of lackluster. The match was once again a technical one with Edge focusing on the injured arm and shoulder of AJ Styles. Closer to the end it seemed like AJ Styles was about to win but Damian Priest went on the ramp because he was banned from ringside and when AJ Styles was distracted someone in a mask came up and attacked him. Edge then capitalized winning the match with a chokehold. The masked person was revealed to be Rhea Ripley. This whole Judgement Day stable has been fun to watch so far and Ripley being added was a huge deal for her. This match was still pretty good but just underwhelming.

Ronda Rousey defeated Charlotte Flair. “I Quit” match for the WWE SmackDown Women’s Championship

WINNER: RONDA ROUSEY
OUR PREDICTION: RONDA ROUSEY
OUR RATING: 8/10

This match was actually really well done. As much as the storyline sucked, this match did deliver on the brutality of an “I Quit” match. It seemed like Flair and Rousey really wanted to kill each other. The right woman won too, as Flair’s reign was starting to get stale and Rousey should bring something new to the women’s division. Our only complaint about the match is that the microphone was near Charlotte and Ronda the whole time and it picked up them both screaming and it was awful. Great match overall with the right winner and right amount of brutality.

Madcap Moss defeated Happy Corbin. Singles Match

WINNER: MADCAP MOSS
OUR PREDICTION: MADCAP MOSS
OUR RATING: 6/10

This was way better than it had any right to be. Both of these men are underrated when it comes to their in ring performance and they delivered here. Madcap Moss is genuinely a really good wrestler; He was really fast in this match and the crowd loved him. The best part of this match was just Pat McAfee making fun of Corbin the whole time. Even though this was a good match, it really wasn’t memorable at all. Still a good match and Madcap Moss winning is always a good thing.

The Bloodline (Roman Reigns and The Usos (Jey Uso and Jimmy Uso)) (with Paul Heyman) defeated Drew McIntyre and RK-Bro (Randy Orton and Riddle). Six-man Tag Team Match

WINNER: THE BLOODLINE (ROMAN REIGNS & THE USOS)
OUR PREDICTION: THE BLOODLINE (ROMAN REIGNS & THE USOS)
OUR RATING: 8/10

We hated that this match was happening. It looked like something you would see at a House show, but we were wrong. It was fast-paced, fun, and made everyone involved look like a star. The only problem was the lack of importance. The only way this match would have felt special is if Drew McIntyre pinned Roman Reigns to win for his team, but that didn’t happen. Our favourite spot was Randy Orton hitting Roman Reigns with an RKO which was crazy. The match ended with Roman Reigns pinning Riddle.
