CHARLOTTE FLAIR

Ashley Elizabeth Fliehr is a 37-year-old professional wrestler from Charlotte, North Carolina. Fliehr currently wrestles for the WWE and performs on SmackDown under the ring name, Charlotte Flair.

Flair is a second generation wrestler and is the daughter of WWE Hall of Famer, Ric Flair. She started her wrestling career in May 2012 when she signed a developmental contract with WWE and was assigned the company’s developmental territory, NXT, in Florida. She began wrestling under the ring name, Charlotte, and had her first televised singles match in July 2013 on an episode of NXT where she defeated Bayley.

In May 2014, Charlotte competed in an eight woman tournament for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship. She defeated Emma in the first round, Alexa Bliss in the semifinals, and Natalya in the finals at NXT TakeOver on May 29, 2014, to win the NXT Women’s Championship for the first time in her career and her first championship win in the WWE. Her reign as NXT Women’s Champion lasted 258 days.

Charlotte’s Main Roster Debut

In July 2015, Charlotte made her main roster debut on RAW after Stephanie McMahon called for a revolution in the Divas division while introducing new talent Charlotte, Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch. At her WWE pay-per-view debut on Battleground, Charlotte defeated Sasha Banks and Brie Bella.

Charlotte became the number one contender for Nikki Bella’s Diva Championship on an episode of RAW in August 2015. A month later, Flair defeated Nikki Bella at the Night of Champions PPV event in September. Flair maintained the Diva’s Championship until Wrestlemania 32 when the WWE Women’s Championship replaced the Diva’s Championship and Charlotte became the title’s inaugural champion after defeating Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch.

Since then, Flair continues to have an impressive pro wrestling career having won the RAW Women’s Championship four times and the SmackDown Women’s Championship five times. She also won the 2020 Women’s Royal Rumble.

At WrestleMania 36, Charlotte Flair defeated NXT Women’s Champion to capture her second NXT Women’s Championship. At NXT TakeOver: In Your House, Flair lost the title to Io Shirai in a triple threat match ending her reign at 63 days. Shortly after the match, Flair announced she’d be taking time off from in-ring action to undergo surgery to remove her breast implants.

Charlotte Flair’s Return

On December 20, 2020, Charlotte Flair returned to the ring as Asuka’s mystery tag team partner at WWE’s TLC. Flair and Asuka defeated Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler to become the WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions.

Flair’s win at TLC is historic as she is now a Grand Slam Champion. She is the first Superstar to hold all the women’s titles in WWE – the WWE Women’s Title, the RAW Women’s Title, the SmackDown Women’s Title, and now the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles. She also held the WWE Divas Title before it was retired in 2016 while Flair was the champion.

At the 2021 Royal Rumble, Charlotte Flair and Asuka lost the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championship back to Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler.

Charlotte’s Pursuit of RAW Championship

Flair returned on the April 12th edition of RAW, and cut a promo on the fans, stating she was ‘The Opportunity.’ Later in the night, she interfered in the title match for the RAW Women’s Championship between Asuka and Rhea Ripley, turning heel in the process.

A week later, she would be out of action again. This time with the kayfabe reason of being suspended and fined $100,000 on the April 19th episode of RAW. Charlotte assaulted a referee, after losing to Asuka in a singles match. Flair’s suspension was lifted a week later. Charlotte had several title matches including a triple threat match against Asuka and Rhea Ripley at WrestleMania Backlash. She had another against Ripley at Hell in a Cell. Flair lost both matches.

At Money in the Bank 2021, Charlotte defeated Rhea Ripley by submission, thus making her a record-tying 5 time RAW Women’s Champion. On the RAW episode following Money in the Bank, Charlotte lost the title to Nikki A.S.H. who cashed her Money in the Bank briefcase in. Despite a short reign, Flair managed to reclaim the RAW Women’s Championship at SummerSlam.

Charlotte Flair Drafted to SmackDown

As a part of the 2021 Draft, Flair was drafted to the SmackDown brand as a RAW Women’s Champion. On October 22nd, Charlotte swapped her RAW Women’s Championship for the SmackDown Women’s Championship help by Becky Lynch.

On the October 22 episode of SmackDown, Flair and Becky Lynch exchanged their titles. As a result, this resulted in Flair becoming the SmackDown Women’s Champion for the record sixth time. On November 8, it was announced that Flair would face RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch at Survivor Series. Flair lost to Lynch at Survivor Series.

Following Survivor Series, Flair began a brief feud with Toni Storm. She successfully defended the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Storm on the Christmas Eve edition of SmackDown. At the Women’s Royal Rumble 2022 match, Flair lasted to the final two of the match and was the last woman eliminated by the returning Ronda Rousey.

On the February 4 edition of SmackDown, Ronda Rousey made her Smackdown debut and officially challenged Charlotte for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 38.

At WrestleMania 38, Charlotte Flair defeated Ronda Rousey on Night One of the pay-per-view event. A few weeks later at WrestleMania Backlash, Charlotte Flair lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Ronda Rousey in an “I Quit” match.

Charlotte Returns & Wins SmackDown Women’s Championship

After a seven-month hiatus, Flair returned as a face on the December 30th episode of SmackDown. She challenged Ronda Rousey to an impromptu match for the SmackDown Women’s Championship. Despite interference from Shayna Baszler, Flair defeated Rousey to win the title for a record-setting seventh time. This makes her a 14-time women’s world champion and 17th championship overall.

At WrestleMania 39 Night 1, Flair lost the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Royal Rumble winner Rhea Ripley. This ended her reign at 92 days.
