Kesar made his professional wrestling debut for Global Force Wrestling in 2015 in a losing match to Bobby Roode. He began working for Lucha Underground and worked multiple dark matches before making his official in-ring debut for the promotion where he defeated Vinny Massaro in a dark match.

Kesar wrestled for many independent wrestling promotions in his early career such as Paragron Pro Wrestling, West Coast Wrestling Connection and Future Stars Of Wrestling. He won his first championship, FSW Heavyweight Championship, while wrestling for Future Stars of Wrestling. He also worked for Lucha Libre AAA, Impact Wrestling and Major League Wrestling.

At NXT TakeOver: XXX, Kross defeated Keith Lee to win the NXT Championship for the first time. The following day, WWE announced that Karrion Kross suffered a separate shoulder during the match and on August 26, 2020, Kross vacated the title due to injury.
