Yuvraj Singh Dhesi is a 35-year-old wrestler from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He is signed with the WWE and performs on RAW under the ring name, Jinder Mahal.

Dhesi grew up in a wrestling family and is the nephew of Stampede Wrestling legend, Gama Singh. In 2002, Dhesi started his wrestling career for the promotion Premier Martial Arts Wrestling (PMW) under the ring name, Raj Dhesi. He wrestled on the independent scene for promotions including  Prairie Wrestling Alliance, Great North Wresting and Stampede Wrestling.

Jinder Mahal’s WWE Debut

In 2010, he signed with WWE’s developmental brand, Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and wrestled for FCW for one year under the ring name, Jinder Mahal.

In 2011, he made his main roster debut on SmackDown. His first feud was against The Great Khali and his debut match was a win over Vladamir Kozlov. Jinder Mahal joined forces with Drew Mcintyre and Heath Slater in 2012 to form 3MB but they didn’t accomplish much as a group. In June 2014, Jinder Mahal was released from the WWE and he returned to wrestling on the independent scene.

Jinder Mahal’s Return to WWE

In July 2016, he re-signed with the WWE again and in his debut on Monday Night RAW, he faced Heath Slater in a match where the winner would earn a Monday Night RAW contract. Mahal was victorious.

Jinder Mahal was moved to SmackDown Live in April 2017 and was surprisingly hoisted into the running for the WWE Championship. Mahal defeated Randy Orton for the title at Backlash 2017.

At Wrestlemania 34, Mahal won the United States Championship after pinning Rusev. Mahal’s reign as the United States Championship only lasted 8 days when he lost the title to Matt Hardy the night he was traded to RAW. He failed to regain the title from Hardy at the Greatest Royal Rumble event in April 2018.

Mahal was reassigned to SmackDown during the 2019 SuperStar Shake-Up. Mahal won the 24/7 Championship on two occasions defeating R-Truth but losing the title back to him both times. In June 2019, WWE announced that Jinder Mahal had suffered a knee injury that would keep him out of action for six to 12 months.

Mahal was drafted back WWE RAW in 2019 and he briefly returned to in-ring action in April 2020 defeating Akira Tozawa. A month later, Mahal was out of action and it was reported that he underwent knee surgery.

After a nine month absence, Mahal returned at the Superstar Spectacle on January 26, 2021 reuniting with Samir and Sunil Singh to take on Drew McIntyre and Indus Sher in a losing effort.
