Gran Metalik

Máscara Dorada is a 32-year-old Mexican masked professional wrestler signed to the WWE. He performs on WWE’s RAW brand where he wrestles under the ring name, Gran Metalik.

Gran Metalik’s real identity is unknown because he has not been unmasked by losing a Lucha de Apuestas (“Bet match”). The secrecy around masked wrestlers is a large part of the lucha libre tradition.

Gran Metalik began his professional wrestling career in 2005 for Mexican wrestling promotion, Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre’s (CMLL). While wrestling for CMLL, he won numerous championships including the World Welterweight Championship, the World Super Lightweight Championship, and the World Trios Championship. In 2015, he signed a one year contract with New Japan Pro-Wrestling.

Gran Metalik’s WWE Debut

WWE announced in June 2016 that Dorada, under the ring name “Gran Metalik,” would participate in the Cruiserweight Classic tournament. Gran Metalik defeated both Alejandro Saez and Tajiri in the first two rounds. He advanced to the third round and beat Zack Sabre Jr. but lost to T.J. Perkins in the finals. Following the tournament, WWE signed Gran Metalik and he began wrestling in the Cruiserweight division. He appeared on both RAW and 205 Live shows.

In early 2018, WWE decided to have the three masked luchadors of the 205 Live roster, Metalik, Kalisto and Lince Dorado, band together to create the team, Lucha House Party. As part of their gimmick, the luchadors started to carry brightly colored noisemakers and vuvuzela horns with them, using them to celebrate after a victory. They also carried a brightly colored Piñata donkey with them to the ring, which they referred to as “Penelope.”

Lucha House Party’s Debut

The Lucha House Party’s first match took place on 205 Live on January 23, 2019 against Ariya Daivari, TJP, and Tony Nese. The Lucha House Party won the match and at the Royal Rumble, Lucha House Party defeated TJP, Drew Gulak, and Gentleman Jack Gallagher. In early 2018, WWE held a tournament for the vacant WWE Cruiserweight Championship, where Gran Metalik participated but was eliminated in the first round by eventual tournament winner, Cedric Alexander.

In October 2019, Gran Metalik and the Lucha House Party tag team were assigned to SmackDown as part of the company’s WWE draft. Since then, the Lucha House Party have become involved in the SmackDown Tag Team Championship race.

Gran Metalik Drafted to RAW

On October 12, 2020, Gran Metalik and Lince Dorado were drafted to Monday Night RAW while Kalisto was assigned to SmackDown. On the December 30th episode of NXT, Gran Metalik and Dorado appeared and defeated Legado del Fantasma. He issued a challenge to NXT Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar following the match. The match was scheduled for NXT: New Year’s Evil with the Cruiserweight title on the line. At the event, Escobar beat Gran Metalik. On January 13, it was announced that Dorado & Metalik would be competing in the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic.

At the 2021 Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, Gran Metalik and Dorado beat Imperium in the first round but were defeated in the quarterfinals by Joaquin Wilde and Raul Mendoza.
