Marina Shafir is a 33-year-old Moldovan professional wrestler and a former mixed martial artist. She is signed to the WWE and performs on WWE’s NXT brand.
Shafir started her career in mixed martial arts at an amateur level in 2012. Over the course of two years, Shafir was unbeaten at the amateur level winning all five of her matches by submission. She turned professional in 2014 and won her first match by submission. She went on to lose two fights in MMA.
Marina Shafir’s WWE Debut
In May 2018, Marina Shafir and fellow MMA fighter Jessamyn Duke signed with WWE and reported to the company’s Performance Center in Florida. Shafir made her debut at a house show for NXT in July teaming with Nikki Cross in a winning match against Aliyah and Rhea Ripley. Two days later, she won her first singles match at another NXT house show defeating Aliyah.
At the Evolution event, an all women’s pay-per-view event, Shafir and Duke made their debut helping Shayna Baszler regain her NXT Women’s Championship.
Marina Shafir made her in-ring debut in a losing effort to Dakota Kai and Io Shirai while teaming with Jessamyn Duke. Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke also had an opportunity to compete against Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai with the winners becoming number one contenders for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships. Shafir and Duke lost the match.
Shafir was absent from WWE television for several months in 2020 but returned to RAW on August 17 reuniting with Shayna Baszler and Jessamyn Duke to win a match on WWE’s RAW Underground against Brandi Lauren.
