Nhooph Al-Areebi is a 26-year-old professional wrestler from Toronto, Canada. She is currently signed to WWE and performs on NXT under the ring name, Aliyah.

At the age of 14, Al-Areebi decided she wanted to become a professional wrestler after watching Beth Phoenix and Mickie James compete at a taping of RAW. From 2013 to 2015, Al-Areebi wrestled on the independent circuit under the ring name Jasmin Areebi. She debuted for Squared Circle Wrestling (SCW) in Toronto in January 2013.

She then began wrestling for a variety of promotions in Canada and the United States, including Pure Wrestling Association (PWA), Absolute Intense Wrestling (AIW), and New England Championship Wrestling (NECW).

Al-Areebi’s WWE Contract & Debut

In early 2015, Al-Areebi signed a developmental contract with WWE and then made her in-ring debut on June 20 at an NXT live event where she competed in a six–person tag team match. In October 2015, she was assigned the ring name, Aliyah.

Aliyah made her television debut in January 2016 where she competed in a battle royal to become the number one contender for Bayley’s NXT Women’s Championship. She abandoned her Arabian gimmick towards the end of 2016 and debuted new ring gear and entrance music.

Aliyah’s Main Roster Debut

In January 2017, Aliyah made her main roster debut on SmackDown losing to Carmella. Throughout most of 2017, Aliyah was on a losing streak and lost matches to Lacey Evans, Ember Moon and Kairi Sane. By the fall, she turned heel and teamed up with Lacey Evans to defeat Dakota Kai and Deonna Purazzo. After a brief hiatus, Aliyah returned to NXT television in February 2019 and formed an alliance with Vanessa Borne. Together, they defeated Conti and Xia Li at the end of February.

In the match against Xia Li, Aliyah’s nose was broken after Li kicked her in the face. She was written off NXT television in November and underwent surgery. She returned to in-ring competition on the March 25th episode of NXT in a losing match against Io Shirai. In June, Aliyah joined forces with Robert Stone who finally agreed to an alliance and he helped her defeat Xia Li.

At NXT: The Great American Bash, Aliyah competed alongside Robert Stone against Rhea Ripley in a handicap match, with the stipulation that if Ripley lost then she would join the Robert Stone Brand, but they were defeated.
