Matt Clement is a 32-year-old professional wrestler from British Columbia, Canada. He is signed with the WWE and performs on NXT under the ring name, Tyler Breeze.
Clement trained under Lance Storm at Storm’s Academy in Calgary, Alberta. He made his wrestling debut in 2007 for Power Zone Wrestling under the ring name, Mattias Wild. His first match was on April 25, 2007 where he defeated Rage O’Riley. The following year, Clement began wrestling for NWA Extreme Canadian Championship Wrestling (ECCW).
WWE Contract & Debut
In 2010, Clement signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). He made his debut for WWE’s developmental territory Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) on December 2, 2010, at a live event where he defeated Big E Langston, Darren Young, Leakee and two others. The following month he changed his ring name to Mike McGrath and that changed again three months later to Mike Dalton. Clement made his television debut on FCW Live TV losing to Alexander Rusev. On December 15, 2011, he won a battle royal to be named the number-one contender to the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship. Dalton won the FCW Heavyweight Championship on February 2, 2012, when he defeated Kruger. His reign lasted 21 days and he lost the title back to Kruger in a rematch.
As Mike Dalton, he appeared on FCW’s re-branded NXT wrestling on June 20, 2012 and teamed with CJ Parker in a losing match to The Ascension. He teamed with Jason Jordan and defeated Hunico and Camacho on August 1, 2012. In early 2013, WWE advised Clement that he needed to come up with a new ‘gimmick’ or character in order to stay in the WWE. On the July 24th episode of NXT, Clement debuted, Tyler Breeze, a narcissistic “pretty boy” obsessed with taking selfies, even during matches. Shortly after his debut, Breeze began a feud with CJ Parker after he was repeatedly photo-bombed by Parker. Their feud ended a few weeks later after Parker defeated Breeze.
Tyler Breeze feuded with Neville and Xavier Woods in late 2012 to early 2013. On May 8, 2013, he participated in a 20-man battle royal for a shot at the NXT Championship and was involved in a three-way tie. The following week, Breeze faced the other two winners, Sami Zayn and Tyson Kidd in a triple–threat match, which Kidd won. At the end of May, he defeated Sami Zayn in another number one contender’s match but suffered a broken finger and was out of action until the end of July. He received his title match against Neville on the August 14 episode of NXT, but was unsuccessful after Tyson Kidd interfered and caused a disqualification.
Main Roster Debut
Tyler Breeze made his main roster debut on October 22, 2015 on an episode of SmackDown where he was introduced by Summer Rae and then attacked by Dolph Ziggler. He then made his in-ring debut on November 9, losing to Dean Ambrose in a first round match in the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament. Breeze continued feuding with Ziggler for the rest of November which resulted in a match at Survivor Series that Breeze won. Their feud officially ended after Ziggler defeated Breeze in two rematches on SmackDown and RAW. In January 2016, Tyler Breeze began a winless streak where he lost 20 matches to wrestlers like Zack Ryder and Jack Swagger. At Royal Rumble, Breeze was eliminated within two minutes in his first Royal Rumble match by Roman Reigns and AJ Styles.
Breezango Tag Team
In May 2016, Tyler Breeze and Fandango teamed up and formed a tag team called, Breezango. A week later, they made their in-ring debut defeating R-Truth and Goldust, but then lost in a rematch at Money in the Bank to them. Breezango then went on to defeat The Usos and The Vaudevillains. In 2017, Breezango was unsuccessful in winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championship and lost matches to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn as well as to the Bludgeon Brothers. At WrestleMania 34, Tyler Breeze competed in the André the Giant Battle Royal, but was unsuccessful.
On the December 12th, 2018, episode of NXT, Breeze appeared as the surprise opponent for Ricochet’s NXT North American Championship match in a losing effort. Five days later, Breeze answered Dean Ambrose’s open challenge for the Intercontinental Championship, but was again defeated. Breeze then competed in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 35, but was eliminated early in the match.
In April 2019, Breeze began working NXT live events and returned to NXT as a full-time performer on May 22, where he interrupted NXT North American Champion, Velveteen Dream and took a selfie with him. Breeze then attacked Velveteen Dream which started a feud and resulted in a match between the two for the NXT North American Championship at NXT TakeOver: XXV. Velveteen Dream defeated Tyler Breeze at NXT TakeOver: XXV.
On the July 31, 2019 episode of NXT, Fandango returned to action saving Tyler Breeze from a post-match attack by The Forgotten Sons. They began a feud with The Forgotten Sons, defeating them in tag team action as well as in a six-man tag action with Isaiah “Swerve” Scott as their partner. Unfortunately, Fandango was sidelined with another injury in December as he announced he had undergone ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction and would be out of action recovering for anywhere from 6 to 12 months.
Tyler Breeze reunited with Fandango when he returned from injury on June 3, 2020. That night they defeated Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch, and The Undisputed Era in a number one contender’s match for the NXT Tag Team Championship. They failed to capture the titles from Imperium on June 17’s NXT episode following interference from both Lorcan and Burch and Indus Sher. On August 26, 2020 episode of NXT, Breezango defeated Imperium to win the titles. This marked Tyler Breeze’s first title win in the WWE.
On October 21st’s NXT episode, Tyler Breeze and Fandango lost the NXT Tag Team Championships to Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch.
