Steffanie Rhiannon Newell is a 26-year-old professional wrestler from Wales. She wrestles for the WWE and performs on NXT under the ring name, Tegan Nox.
Newell began her training for a career in wrestling at a professional wrestling school in Port Talbort and was trained by Dave Stewart and Mike Hitchman. In July 2014, Newell made her in-ring debut for Attack! Pro Wrestling competing three times on the same show where she won and lost the ATTACK! 24/7 Championship three times in one night.
Newell’s Early Wrestling Career
In January 2015, she debuted the persona, Luchadora the Explorer, teaming with Brookes in a loss to The Anti-Fun Police. The following January, Newell teamed with Mark Andrews and they formed the tag team, Bayside. On April 3, Bayside won the new Attack: Pro! Tag Team Champions, defeating #CCK. They retained the titles until August, when they lost them back to #CCK in a TLC match. Newell wrestled on the independent scene for promotions including Fight Club: Pro, Progress Wrestling, Shimmer Women Athletes, What Culture Pro Wrestling, and World Wonder Ring Stardom until 2017.
Newell’s WWE Debut
In April 2017, Newell signed with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and was scheduled to be in the 2017 Mae Young Classic Tournament but was removed from the tournament due to an ACL injury. After several months, she finally returned to in-ring action at a NXT live event on April 13, 2018, where she teamed up with Dakota Kai in a tag team match to defeat Reina González and Vanessa Borne. In 2018, Newell adopted the ring name, Tegan Nox and it was announced that she would be one of the 2018 Mae Young Classic competitors.
At the 2018 Mae Young Classic, Tegan Nox defeated Zatara in the first round and Nicole Matthews in the second round. In the quarterfinals, she lost to Rhea Ripley and ended up sustaining multiple injuries during the match including a torn ACL, MCL, lateral collateral ligament, meniscus, and patellar dislocation.
Tegan Nox’s Return from Injury
In June 2019, Tegan Nox made her in-ring return at a NXT Live event in Florida. The following month, she also made her NXT UK debut defeating Shax in her first match. She challenged Kay Lee Ray to a NXT UK Women’s Championship match but was unsuccessful in defeating Ray. In October 2019, Nox returned to NXT defeating Taynara in her first televised match and she started teaming with Dakota Kai again. The duo defeated Jessamyn Duke and Marina Shafir in a number one contenders match for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships.
During the October 30th episode of NXT, Tegan Nox and Dakota Kai teamed up against Asuka and Kairi Sane, the Kabuki Warriors, for the WWE Women’s Tag Team Championships, but lost the match. Two days later, on SmackDown, Tegan Nox teamed with Rhea Ripley after NXT invaded SmackDown defeated Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville in a tag team match. At NXT TakeOver: WarGames, she joined Team Ripley alongside Rhea Ripley, Dakota Kai, and Candice LeRae, but did not get to compete after Dakota Kai turned on the team and brutally attacked her.
Tegan Nox’s Various Feuds
Tegan Nox returned to NXT on January 15th, 2020 where she competed in a number one contendership battle royal for the NXT Women’s Championship match against Rhea Ripley. Nox was unsuccessful at the battle royal as Kai interfered and eliminated her. Two weeks later, on an episode of NXT, Nox defeated Dakota Kai with help from Candice LeRae. She had a rematch against Dakota Kai at NXT TakeOver: Portland, but lost to Kai. At NXT TakeOver: In Your House, Nox teamed with Mia Yim and Shotzi Blackheart to defeat Dakota Kai, Candice LeRae, and Raquel González.
On the July 1 episode of NXT The Great American Bash, Tegan Nox became the number one contender for the NXT Women’s Championship after defeating Dakota Kai, Candice LeRae, and Mia Yim. On the July 15th episode of NXT, Nox was unsuccessful in her title match against defending champion, Io Shirai.
NXT announced on September 30 that Nox had once again suffered a torn ACL and would be out of action for an indefinite amount of time.
