RAUL MENDOZA

Raul Mendoza is a 29-year-old Mexican professional wrestler. He is currently signed to the WWE and performs on NXT.

Mendoza started his wrestling career in 2006 and wrestled primarily for promotions in Mexico and Japan. For ten years, Mendoza wrestled mostly on the Mexican independent circuit, most notably appearing for independent promotions including Desastre Total Ultraviolento (DTU), Perros del Mal (PdM), and the International Wrestling Revolution Group (IWRG), while also appearing for the national promotion, Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide (AAA). In Japan, he wrestled for the Japanese promotion, Pro Wrestling Noah.

In 2016, Mendoza was announced as a participant for the WWE Cruiserweight Classic, a 32-man single-elimination tournament featuring competitors 205 lbs and under, as a representative for Mexico Mendoza was eliminated in the first round of the tournament by The Brian Kendrick.

Following the Cruiserweight Classic, Mendoza signed with the WWE and he was assigned to the company’s developmental territory, NXT. On May 25, 2017, Mendoza made his NXT debut in a losing match to The Velveteen Dream. In February 2018, Mendoza won a battle royal to become the number one contender for the NXT Championship. Mendoza had his first NXT title match but was defeated by NXT Champion, Andrade “Cien” Almas.

On July 23, 2019, Raul Mendoza made his 205 Live debut where he teamed with Humberto Carrillo to defeat Kalisto and Gran Metalik. A few months later in November, he challenged the NXT Cruiserweight Champion Lio Rush but was unable to capture the championship.

In May 2020, Mendoza was ‘kidnapped’ as part of an NXT storyline by a group of masked men and thrown into a van in the parking lot outside the arena. The following week Joaquin Wilde was similarly kidnapped. In June, Raul Mendoza made his return to NXT television with Wilde and they were revealed as the mysterious masked men and they aligned themselves with Santos Escobar to create the stable now known as El Legado del Fantasma.
